Cookie map fiasco

ArizonaMoms's picture

Last night, between homework, Girls Scouts, office work and housework, I squeezed in time to search for a giant cookie. I needed a plain one for my son's school project - creating a cookie map of Arizona. I couldn't find one.

I stopped by Sam's Club, I know I've seen them there. None were in sight (I'm sure all the other mommies already snapped them up, darn it!). I stopped by a grocery store where there were plenty of cookies, but they where all decorated with frosting and kinda pricey for a school project that I know we won't be eating.

So I bought some ready made cookie dough. I was going to bake it last night, but I was on the computer until 1 a.m. taking care of stuff. So I awoke early and absent minded, forgetting to bake the cookie pie for my son, who needed it today for the class project.

At about 7:45 a.m., I remembered. I think looking for milk triggered my memory. I spread out the cookie dough and set the timer for 13 minutes, a few minutes longer than the package said. Cook time is 9-11 minutes for a 2-inch cookie.

The cookie looked done, so I pulled it out, let it set a bit and then tried removing it. That's when I realized it hadn't baked all the way. I could see disappointment in my son's eyes as he watched me struggle. The cookie didn't exactly fall apart, but only because it was still raw in the middle I could reshape it.

I put the half-baked cookie dough on a new cookie sheet upside down. The positive is I could see what hadn't baked through, but the cookie wasn't going to win a beauty contest.

We arrived at school on time. At least my son was happy to not be empty handed...I know his mind was wondering if the cookie would make it out of the house in one piece.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he decorates his cookie state. I'm sure he'll make it look a whole lot better. At least it smelled great.

You poor thing. I have been

You poor thing. I have been there, so I feel your pain...especially the part where you mentioned the look of disappointment in your son's eyes as he watched you struggle, not understanding what you go through for him everyday. It can be so......what's the word I'm looking for here..........I guess frustrating is the only way I can describe it. You have a full time job - and one that actually requires thought - a long commute, all kinds of household chores, perhaps a not so helpful husband, etc...there you are trying to be the best mom you can and do everything..and it seems like the schools come up with all of these very involved projects that get piled on at the last minute. I know the school projects are supposed to be fun, and it is important to be involved.....but there are times when it all seems to fall on you like a ton of bricks!

I remember having to do that

I remember having to do that in grade school. I was lucky though my mom had to done one of Minnesota when she was a kid, so her great grandmother had a recipe for sugar cookies that makes like 6 dozen cookies so they all went through the trial and error of making a huge cookie before I ever came along!
