Sometimes it's all a parent can do in the morning to get the kids out of bed, dressed, groomed and laden with a backpack before the first school bell rings. Who has time for a decent breakfast?
Here are nine ideas for quick morning meals that kids can eat in the car on the way:
• Toaster waffles topped with fruit spread or peanut butter, sprinkled with raisins.
• Breakfast bar with a Yoplait Go-GURT Portable Yogurt (freeze the tubes for a cool treat).
• String cheese and fruit.
• Bagel spread with peanut butter and jelly or low-fat cream cheese.
• Scrambled-egg-and-cheese sandwich on toasted bread.
• Small Ziploc bag filled with cereal.
• A pita pocket with turkey, cheese and sliced carrots.
• A sausage link rolled in a pancake.
• A whole-wheat tortilla filled with hard-boiled-egg slices, turkey bacon or lean ham and cheddar cheese. Add a tablespoon of salsa for kids who need an extra jolt to fully awaken.
If the idea of the backseat breakfasting prompts fears for the survival of your upholstery, try the TrayGo. The plastic tray has a deep cup holder that fits between your kid's legs and straddles his or her lap. An outside lip prevents spills, and recessed areas hold a meal in place.
The trays are available for $16 at familyonboard.com /car_seat_travel_trays.html.
