Motherhood has always been a favorite subject when it comes to Hollywood, with movies featuring the good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between.

Mom-themed movies have become cult classics (Raising Arizona), given us unforgettable lines ("No wire hangers, ever!), brought countless tears to our eyes (Terms of Endearment) and made us darn proud (Norma Rae).

Steel Magnolias (1989). Southern women bond at a beauty parlor, facing love and loss together. Features: Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts.

Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood (2002). A mother's wild childhood adventures are revealed to her daughter, bringing laughter, tears and understanding. Stars Sandra Bullock, Ellen Burstyn and Ashley Judd.

Freaky Friday (1976). Mother and teenage daughter find their personalities mysteriously switched on one freaky Friday. Stars Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster.

The Joy Luck Club (1993). Four Asian mothers and daughters explore their pasts to better understand strained mother/daughter relationships. Stars Ming-Na.

Forrest Gump (1994). Simple-minded Forrest Gump sets off to find his destiny, with his mother's blessing, and accidentally makes history over and over again. Features Tom Hanks, Robin Wright Penn and Sally Field (as mom, of course).

Stepmom (1998). Story of a divorced mother, her children, her ex's girlfriend and her untimely illness. Stars Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts.

Throw Momma From the Train (1987) Dark comedy about friends who plot to kill a nasty nagging mother. Features the comedic talents of Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal.

Mr. Mom (1983). A husband and wife reverse "mommy" roles when the husband loses his job and stays home to raise the children. Stars Michael Keaton and Terri Garr.

Baby Boom (1987) A touching, funny story of a woman's journey from corporate tiger to reluctant mother. Stars Diane Keaton.

Mommie Dearest (1981). This movie chronicles the abusive upbringing of Christina Crawford by her Hollywood star mother Joan Crawford. Features Faye Dunaway.
