April Classes at the Desert Botanical Garden

Don’t be an April Fool………..Take advantage of the excellent classes offered at the Desert Botanical Garden during the month of April. Learn to garden in small spaces. Learn how to cook with herbs or if you like, learn how to grow your own herbs. Always wanted to learn more about rocks and geology of the Valley of Sun……….the Garden has a class for you. Or perhaps spend a fun day hiking and eating in Wickenburg with the “Cowbay Naturalist”.

Landscaping for Small Spaces
Wednesday / April 9 / 6-9 p.m.
Member: $32 / Non-Member: $40
Are you working with a limited space that you just do not know how to handle? Don't let size restrict your ability to design a functional and attractive garden. Garden curator Kirti Mathura will show that despite having a smaller area to work within, you can create a beautiful home landscape with interesting, yet appropriate plants. Limit 30.

Now You’re Cooking with Herbs: A Culinary Experience with Chef Pascal Dionot

Cook an herb-inspired gourmet meal with Chef Pascal Dionot of Classic Cooking, Scottsdale’s premiere culinary school – a tantalizing new offering at the Garden!
Nothing says springtime like growing, experiencing, and cooking with herbs. This two-part workshop is for those interested in learning about culinary herbs and cooking their own gourmet meal under the tutelage of a gourmet chef. Workshop is limited to 20 participants.

Southwest Native Herbs for Your Garden and Landscape
Tuesday and Thursday / April 15 and 17 / 6-9 p.m. AND Saturday / April 19 / 7-10 a.m.
Member: $60 / Non-Member: $75
Join Kirti Mathura, Garden curator, and discover which regional herbs add exciting landscape interest and have a wide variety of useful features. Sessions one and two are held in the classroom and provide an informative and experiential background for session three, an informative walking tour through the Garden, viewing mature specimens. Geology 101: Geology of the Valley of the Sun

Amazed by the geology of our valley? The Phoenix area offers a spectacularly rugged landscape, filled with unique and beautiful geologic features. Join Richard Allen as he shares his geological expertise during this engaging presentation. With great rock exposure and geologic variety, learn why few areas in the world can rival the beauty of the Valley of the Sun. Limit 40.

Rancho de los Caballeros
Thursday / April 24 / 8 a.m.-4 p.m. / Roundtrip from the Garden
Member: $80 / $100 with Garden transportation
Non-Member: $100 / $120 with Garden transportation
Calling all city slickers, there’s a cowboy in all of us. Featuring “Cowboy Naturalist” Richard Fredrickson and naturalist Eric Garton, this fun and easy hike will treat nature lovers to a fabulous array of Sonoran Desert upland plant and animal species, history, and storytelling. We will travel to beautiful Rancho de los Caballeros in Wickenburg for this exceptional hiking excursion followed by a delicious lunch at the ranch’s historic “cowboy-inspired” dining room. This leisurely loop hike is approximately 1.5 miles long with minimal elevation gain, but does have some areas of loose gravel and unsure footing. Lunch, gratuities, bottled water, and snacks are included. Limit 20

Thanks for sharing. That cooking class sounds fun but is expensive, I don't know how much they usually run though I just didn't think it was that much.
