momy & baby classes ??

kdop714's picture

Hello. I live in the north tempe south scottsdale area and I have a 7 month old girl. I have been trying to find swimming lessons and also baby and mommy classes in my area and have had no success. The swimming classes that I found are offered during the daytime while I am working and the 2 gyms that I belong to both have a daycare center but neither offer mommy and baby classes together. My baby is at daycare all day while I am working so when I come home I want to spend some quality time with her and still get some kind of exercise in also. Do anyone have and suggestions for me??? Thank you!

Welcome to the curse of the

Welcome to the curse of the working mother...almost all of these activities are scheduled when older children would be at school, when a SAHM wouldn't have to find a sitter.

But somehow they assume working Moms have no interest in these types of activities.

It's a pet peeve of mine. I looked in vain for a tumbling class for my son, all of them were offered during working hours. Not even 1 weekend class.

Thankfully, the Chandler Parks Dept does offer swim classes on the weekends. But those classes fill up fast, and we've been waitlisted.

Hi I just wanted to let you

Hi I just wanted to let you guys know that Sunrise preschools transport the kids to swimming lessons during the day in the summer and stay there with them. The one in Tempe on Baseline and McClintock take them to Rhodes Jr High every day. But it is hard to have kids in extra curricular activities when you have to work out of the house.

Glad you brought this up. I

Glad you brought this up. I was meaning to start looking for summer swim classes at the Parks & Rec for my 17th month old and it just happens Tempe has 8 month + swim classes starting on Saturday but they are full too:-( I'll have to get the Summer guides ASAP when they come out. I was hoping El Dorado Park and Scottsdale Recreation would have classes but it looks like for Spring they don't have weekend classes, hopefully in the summer though.

Has anyone taken YMCA classes? I was going to check into that but I wonder if you have to be a member. They have 8 week classes on Shea on Saturdays May-June and start at 6 months.

I was looking for gym / music classes a few months ago (never had the time though) and I remember there was a couple Little Gym type places but they were a ways away so I didn't sign up. The Zoo does have some 6 month+ classes I think so you might check there. They were of the singing & music type.

Let me know if you find anything interesting. I'm in South Scottsdale as well and would love to take some classes, find stuff to do in this area. It would be nice if there were a site that broke down kids activities / classes / places to go by area :-) Took me a while to find the best parks and places to hang out with my daughter and I'm still learning. We need to get out a bit more!

I had started to looking

I had started to looking into these type of classes when we lived up there. I was actually looking into their swimming classes that they have offered at the local YMCA. The prices for joining a YMCA seem reasonable and if your company that you work for happens to be on their list you could also qualify for a discounted membership fee. I am sure that the classes for these fill up rather quickly. Here is the link for the YMCA's.

Hello. I wanted to say thank you for the help. I googled the Tempe Multigenerational Center and they had a whole list of places with classes and different locations in the valley. They have swimming classes at the Kiwanas Park Recreational Center in the evenings! The next class starts on 4/16/08 and runs for 4 weeks. It is $40.00 for Monday/Wednseday night classes. Thank you soooo much for your help! I am also going to check out the Center on Bridalwreath since I could literally walk there from my house. Thank you again for your comment as well as everyone else who replied to me. I see that there are a bunch of wonderful mothers here in AZ :)

I also wanted to mention a place in Gilbert called Rolly Pollies. They offer gym, art and other classes. The best thing is they have evening and weekend classes which is great for working moms. My daughter goes there and loves it. Just something to look into maybe?
