I am interested in signing my 17 month old daughter up for swim lessons. We have a pool (it's gated) and i learned to swim at a young age. I did not grow up in AZ and lived only 20 minutes from the coast and many of our neighbors had pools, so my parents thought this was a good idea. I agree it is. Although, i think no matter where you live, ALL kids should have swimming lessons for their own safety. Lets face it....kids are curious. (i know, thats my opinion and many may not agree)
Has anyone used SwimKids USA? I have looked at a few other sites that post their prices online, but SwimKids USA says to call for a free evaluation. Just curious if anyone knows what they run.

I don't know which part of the valley you live in but the city of Phoenix offers swimming lessons in the summer for only $6 for two weeks (you can't beat that!). At least that's what it's been in the past. We've taken our kids to the YMCA for swimming lessons too and they do a great job. I agree with with you, every child should learn how to swim.

City of Phoenix doubled the price of swim lessons this season to $12. (Still a great deal for 2 weeks of lessons.) I've been doing these classes, but honestly my son hasn't "learned to swim." He is better in the water, and it gave me strategies to work with him, but a private instructor or swim school will definitely be more intensive and will yield a better result. That said, time at the City pools could only help reinforce and learn. I like the City lessons.

We've got to swim kids for three summers now and I definately refer people there. Good instructors, nice staff, affordable, etc.
And there's a lso an infoor play area that you can use anytime, which is great during the long hot summer!

I am a bit biased when it
I am a bit biased when it comes to swim lessons. I have taken my son to swim lessons each summer through Infant Swim Resource. It is not a 'mommy & me' type of class but more of a survival course. It meets 5 days a week for 10 minutes....its a bit pricey ....anywhere around $95 a week. However, your child will learn to float within a few weeks - the survival skill necessary to give you time to reach him/her should they accidentally fall into the pool. My son began going at 7 months and is now 3 years old. He now can float, swim, float, swim, etc. to the end of the pool. He is very confident and knows safety. I did once take him to a local pool swim course...but it was soo 'fluffy' and was more a 'bonding' thing versus true skill. Don't get me wrong...I love the bonding thing...but I do that with him in other types of activities. I save swimming lessons...for survival lessons. They can be found at: www.infantswim.com . The one skill that infants and toddlers need to master is this: upon being dropped in water, roll over to float on your back and then make a lot of noise.
I took my daughters to gold
I took my daughters to gold medal swim school in chandler and I thought they were great. We have a pool so I really wanted them to learn and really know how to swim. Just my opinion but I would not recommend the city of Phoenix program FOR A FIRST TIME swim class. Only because they pack the classes and even having a ratio of 4 kids to 1 instructer there are always criers (again first time) so most of the class time is spent trying to get them to calm down. Once one starts then any child feeling even a slight bit of apprehension will start, and the rest of the class is a waste of time. Having said that my 6 year old is a brilliant swimmer and she has taken several classes there to improve her stroke and to learn to dive and they were great. I don't think there is anything wrong with their instruction or facilities, but in my opinion to really learn to swim the best way is private instruction.
Early intervention is the key to future success with your children's speech concerns.
My daughter is 19 months old
My daughter is 19 months old and has been going to Hubbard Swim School since she was 5 1/2 months old. I love it there and she has learned to be very comfortable in and around the water. It is a mix of true skill building as well as having that "mommy and me" feel. We both enjoy it. I haven't heard of Swimkids USA. I'll have to look it up.
