Swimming lessons through the city

Hi. Today the city of Chandler opened up registratiom for summer classes, and I was able to sign up 3 yr old DD for swimming lessons at the new Folley Pool, for 9 days starting 6/16. DH will be on paternity leave that week so he can take DD in the morning that week and I'll take her the next. The cost for 9 25 minute classes was only $15. I enrolled her in shrimp since she does have alot of water experiene, but only with floaties.

That is pretty cheap. Has anyone taken these classes through the city? How good are they? I am wondering for the cheap price of only $15 I wonder just how good the instructors are. I believe the limit is 6 toddlers per class.

We also enrolled her in ABC/123 on Tue mornings starting 7/15. I figure since I will be out on maternity leave, enroll her in the classes while I can. Normally I work and am unable to take her to and from this stuff.

Thanks!!!

Kim

My experience with city

My experience with city offered class (not Chandler) is that classes for the younger children they seem to focus more on getting the children used to the water and water safety more so than they do actual swimming techniques. This is true for the Y too. In past years I've enrolled my daughter with city offered lessons and Y lessons and they both seem to be pretty similar. To me it seems like they do the same thing for the entire session rather than progressing after they master a skill. I understand repetition is important, but as they get older once something is mastered I think it's important to teach new things. That is one reason my daughter got bored with both the city and Y lessons because they kept doing the same thing through out the 2 week sessions and didn't introduce new things.

I've recently enrolled my daughter in a private swim school and like it A LOT better .... of course it's more expensive than city offered lessons or the Y, but it's also more individualized to the child and teaching them at their level rather than the class being taught the same thing regardless of whether the children in the class are at that level or above that level .... she's learned more in just two lessons than she learned in all the sessions I had her in through the city & Y. The private classes also only have 3 children max in them.

I enrolled my 7 1/2 month

I enrolled my 7 1/2 month old and 8-year old into swimming lessons this summer through the city too. This is our first year so I hope it works out for us.
