46, 47, 48

You all know that I like a good laugh, even when the joke is on me. Today (Sunday) is my 46th birthday, but my DP had, for the past few days, convinced me that I was turning 47. Or was it 48? She even got my Mom to email me to wish me a Happy 47th. I know it sounds silly, but said things like, "Okay, your brother just turned 50. He graduated in 1977, and you graduated in 1980", and swearing that she was going to be 46 on her birthday, so I had to be 47.

Have you ever been somewhere on your birthday, and started to write a check, and asked the clerk what the date was? How about realizing your mistake, and then entering in your actual birthdate (i.e. 6/29/1962)?

What were your best birthdays? Mine were 5 and 40.

At 5, we all (and I mean all) went to a taping of the Blinky's (he was a clown) Fun Club show in Denver. My aunt from CA bought my sister and I (as always, exactly the same but in different colors) new dresses to wear, and we had to stand on the bed forever while they got pinned up to hem the night before. We also got our hair washed and set in rag curls. Of course, I just woke up with a huge snarl and no curls. At the taping, Blinky came over to me and said, "Happy Birthday", and asked who all the other kids sitting with me were. All I could do was stare at his rubber nose. Thank goodness there weren't any VCRs back then. It would be played over and over and over to show the one time in my life that I didn't have anything to say.

At 40, instead of a children's show, it was Blackhawk and the casinos in the Colorado mountains. One friend flew in from WA, and other friend and his wife drove down from Cheyenne, and we stayed at a little motel that's been there since before the casinos. The first night, since I couldn't pick up my WA buddy until evening, the gal in charge of the hotel just told me which room, and left a key in the nightstand for when we got in. The next morning, I went to check in and pay for the room(s). My friend mentioned that it was my birthday, and she told me to get a Players Card at every casino and tell them it was my birthday. Before our other friends arrived, that boy had run me ragged; I have a key ring with all the cards on them. He acted like it was Halloween: "It's her birthday. What does she get?" It was an impressive haul.

Our WY friends had brought along a bottle of champagne, a box of cigars, and half a dozen of those 1/2 quart size bottles of beer. After a little gambling, and a nice dinner, we retired to the motel hot tub to drink champagne and beer and they (yes, even her) puffed some stogies. The guys insisted on wearing their cowboy hats. By the time my ex arrived later in the evening (she'd had to work), we were BFFs in the way that you can only be BFFs after mixing Dom with Coors.

I actually won more money than I'd lost, and, of course, we took the complementary shuttle back and forth, so, while we were silly, we stayed safe.

31 was my best birthday,

31 was my best birthday, because I found out two days before it, that I was pregnant with my first son.

40 is coming up in a few months, and It will be the worst, because I had a heartbreaking miscarriage last year and really wanted one more baby, but didn't get one.

Happy Birthday *<:0)

I have always had quiet birthdays as I wanted and I was and still never big on cakes...don't ask me why...LOL but I would say 38 would be my best one because one - my husband made it home alive and two - Sky was born - a few days earlier. She was actually due on my birthday but since she was growing bigger and bigger and when the OB dr said she was going to be over 9 lbs, I literally went off on him and demanded to get induced on the spot....he didn't want to but did and sure enough I got her the next morning!

Every birthday I have had were actually good - except for when I turned 30 - not going into that one!

Happy Birthday!!!

Can't really think of one that stands out, but birthdays were always a big deal in my house when we were growing up. When i say a big deal, i don't mean lots of money was spent, but instead, it was like "your special day". We kind of make a "big deal" of my daughters now too.

Again, Happy Birthday!!!

Oh...Happy...happy birthday!

Oh...Happy...happy birthday! Hope your day is as special as you ! :)

Our famliy makes the birthdays special......our famliy is like me's...not so much on money being spent but...it is your special day.

However, on my 30th birthday there was money being spent...and it happened to be my best birthday...not because of the money....but because of the events.

First, my MIL treated me to Elizabeth Ardens day spa.....the whole day was....massage, facial, hair, makeup, nails and a wonderful lunch. That was a huge treat for me, for I have never been fussed over so much... :)

Then my husband and I had a delightful dinner alone and then that night my girlfriends picked me up and painted the town red!

Most of my birthdays have been great....and I really love making other's birthdays special !

22 was my worst because I

22 was my worst because I had a car accident on my 22nd birthday and ended up in a wheelchair for three years.

33rd was my best birthday. I was very newly pregnant and was showing clear signs of a miscarriage. The doctor ordered an ultrasound to confirm a viable pregnancy or not and of all days it was scheduled on my birthday. Since I had already had the car accident before, I was not excited about the ultrasound. I went to the appointment fearing the worst, when all of a sudden appeared a tiny heart beating on the monitor! That was my greatest birthday present! He is now 2 1/2 years old!

My most memorable birthday

JuneSlager's picture

My most memorable birthday was definitely my 5th birthday. I do not remember much from my early childhood, but I clearly remember both these incidents. We had both a family party and a friend party when I turned five, and both were exciting if nothing else.
We had a party for some of my school friends at a local ice cream parlor. It was quite memorable because it was a tradition at Barnhills to have an ice cream cake with a doll placed on it that looked like you. Mine had red hair just like I did. I still remember the waitress coming to light the candles and by mistake she lit the doll's hair on fire. Everyone felt so badly about the incident and they quickly got a new doll for the cake, but they did not have anymore red heads so I got a blond doll that day.
The weekend after that we had a family party and my grandparents came over for the party. During the party, my cat came to the front door with a chipmunk in it's mouth. My grandfather just had to get a picture of it, because it had brought me a present for my birthday, when he opened the screen door and took the picture, the cat was startled by the flash of the camera and dropped the chipmunk. It was not dead and it ran straight into the house. You can imagine the mayhem that ensued. My brother and I ran around screaming, the cat chased the chipmunk and eventually we closed my dad in the screen porch with the cat and the chipmunk and a broom. A few lamps did not make it through that night, but it was certainly exciting.
Looking back, I can say it was a wonderful birthday because I can still see the faces of loved ones to this day which are no longer with us.

Mine was my 50th, this past

zoomom's picture

Mine was my 50th, this past March. My husband and I only knew eachother 6 weeks when we got married...our 25th is this coming October. Before we got married we ran to the mall and got gold bands. Between raising kids and life in general, a diamond was never in the cards for me! Anyway, we went on a cruise in March where I happened to turn 50 and he bought me a beautiful diamond ring! It's not real big or anything like that but it was bought with such love that I'll never forget it!!!
