Bday food-best place to buy bulk

pvmom's picture

So, I'm trying to prepare for my son's 1yr in a couple weeks. We've decided to go simple and just do cold cuts, salads, etc.
I just came back from Costco to check their prepared deals, and we are looking at about $80+ in food (sandwiches, salads, drinks, cake). We are expecting no more than 30 people, so that's no more than about $3/pp. Not too bad.
Just wondering if anyone had any other ideas from what they've done for parties in the past.
Thanks again!

we did cold cuts for my daughter's 1st birthday last year and they went over great. We did a couple of side dishes and cut up veggies and then a plate of toppings for the cold cuts. I just got the sliced lunch meat, cheese and veggies at Safeway. Cake, drinks and rolls from Costco.

We are thinking about grilling hot dogs and hamburgers for her second birthday later this year. I think this will be easy and also not too expensive.

Walmart also has great deals

Walmart also has great deals for party food. I only spent about $100 for a party with nearly 50 guests. I serve fried chicken, watermelon slices, baked beans, a berry platter, cheese sticks, pb&j's, homemade potato salad, soda, bottled water and juice. This price did not include our cake.

Cold Cuts is a great idea.

Cold Cuts is a great idea. We attended a 1st Birthday that served Little Caesars Pizza. You can buy large pizzas for 5.00 each. They served pizza, and made the salad, and it was delicious!

The super Walmart has a decent deli section. The cost is fairly reasoneable - I think even a bit less than Costco or Sams.

I have done everything in

I have done everything in the above posts. Cold cuts, Costco, Walmart, Sams and pizza, etc. They all have really good prices. Another really inexpensive thing I have done is to bbq hamburgers and hot dogs. You have to do a little work but you can get frozen patties and hot dogs chips potatoe salad and fruit platters all from Costco really cheap. But if you want to relax and not cook, go with the cold cuts. You can also purchase a party sub from walmart for under $30 for like a six foot. :)

You can't go wrong with pre-made sub sandwhiches from Subway. Buy some chips and fruit and you're all set.
We've also done Tom's BBQ. Pretty reasonably priced and you can get everything you need in terms of main dish and side dishes.

I didn't even think about the subs from Wal-Mart, or Subway.
I'll check into it.
