Anyone on the Westside, this looks fun, I took my daughter to the library last weekend to see the reptile guy, he was really great and the kids got to touch a snake and an iguana, he was really good with the kids and explained all about the different reptiles. He is going to be at the Library Fest on Saturday. Its a great inexpensive activity!!!

The Main Library will host the annual Library Fest on March 15th with a Parisian themed flea market and a line-up of literary and educationally themed events. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library who will hold their book sale as part of the program.
Library Fest promises to be a day at the library jam packed with programs for the entire family. Kicking off the day at 9:00 am is the Friends of the Library spring book sale and an antiques/collectibles booth with a big selection of 'finds' for treasure hunters. While the adults are shopping, children can participate in face painting, fortune telling, and temporary tattooing or create a beaded masterpiece with the Bean Museum. At ten Shawn Greer performs some magic in the Willow Room and Reptile Adventures will offer a selection of snakes, lizards and other slick and shiny creatures. Peoria Rotary will host a three hour 'read-a-thon' where members will offer a new story time every half hour. Children who attend a program will receive a free book. Ventriloquist Jerry Layne performs at 11:00 am while bestselling author Francine Mathews/Stephanie Barron discusses her two popular series, entertains questions and signs copies of her books. At noon the City of Peoria Police department will give a demonstration of police dog take down maneuvers. The Teen Photo Contest reception will be held at 1:00 pm and the winners will be announced.
Library Fest is also the event which kicks off the annual library card contest. Children are encouraged to draw a picture that show what the library means to them. The chosen art will receive a $100 savings bond from the Friends of the Library.
The book sale, antiques/collectibles booth and other activities will end at 2:00 pm. Proceeds from both sales are ear marked for something special for the new branch library soon to be under construction.
