Last night we were all geared up to view fireworks from our back patio. When we moved into our house this past September the builders said, "You are so lucky, you will have a front row seat to the fireworks without even leaving your yard." Sounded great. This was going to be our first July 4th in the valley so we got the kids all geared up for the show.
The windy weather, however, made the fireworks show a little more interesting than we would have hoped. The first couple were beautiful and we enjoyed watching them light up the sky. After a minute or two though we started getting hit with falling debris. We quickly went under the porch, but then we were getting pelted there as well because of the wind. We watched the rest of the show from inside and the kids definitely were a little worried as the house and yard continued to get pelted with fall out from the fireworks. The cleanup is going to be very time consuming, the pool alone took us well over an hour to get the majority of the stuff out and we have not even touched the yard yet.
I still love Fourth of July Celebrations and will continue to enjoy watching the show, but I am now convinced viewing from a far is definitely best.

This happened to us one year when we went to a fireworks show. We were pelted with debris from the show because of the direction of the wind. But i can't imagine it happening in my backyard and then cleaning it up.

We also live opposite a park that was doing fireworks, so I put lawn chairs out and prepared for a great time. This idea was shattered, however, when one of my son's friends found a snake slithering through the common area and decided to run from yard to yard thrusting it in everyone's face! I am not a big fan of snakes, so I beat a hasty retreat into the house, where I too enjoyed watching the fireworks from a distance!
The view from the bay window was great, and kept me a safe distance from all things nature-related.

Bummer, that kinda takes the bang out of the fireworks when you have to run for cover. Maybe umbrellas will help for next year.
