Meeting other moms

decthmpsn's picture

Hello~

I am trying to find out how to meet other moms. I am getting divorced and have two small children. I will be working so I will not be able to join the mom groups for stay at home moms. Where do working moms with children meet people? I want to locate activites that I can do with my children to help them develop and grow. My daughter is 2 and my son (due in April) will be about 4 months old.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I have a kid-focused

Hi,
I have a kid-focused home based business and as part of it I have parties/get-togethers almost every week. I have a baby boutique as well as wonderful developmental/educational toys for all ages -my parties are for moms with kids -no purchase necessary so if you are just looking to meet with other moms at a time that is 9-5 friendly (eves and weekends) you might be interested in attending one of these. Kids are always welcome :) you can email me if interested in attending one.
We spend most of the time socializing anyway! There are snacks, food, non-alchoholic beverages, etc. Sometimes games, sometimes we just kind of hang out! There may be other parties like this out there as well...may be worth checking into.
Cheers

Hey there, I'm just a dad,

Hey there,

I'm just a dad, so I don't "really" know how to meet "other moms" per se...

But I can tell you what my wife does... and/or what I've encouraged her to do:

- She seems addicted to this site, what I call "moms.com" but what is actually the Mothering.com discussion board. You might find it useful:
(It seems quite well used, apparently a lot of moms find it popular..)

- There's also of course, local toddler playgrounds, such as they have at the newly opened McDonald's in Gilbert/Val Vista, etc. These aren't "great" for meeting people, but you may find a lot of people to talk to etc. at the local shopping malls play stations too (eg Chander Mall, Superstition Springs, San Tan, etc etc)

- Finally, churches offer a lot of support. Both before and during Sunday morning services, there are "Sunday school" nurseries that you don't have to just drop your child off at -- you can actually participate and help out too if you want to. Additionally, and perhaps more practically, a lot of Churches have meeting groups for parents of young toddlers. MOPS is the usual name: mothers of pre-schoolers.

Just some ideas -- good luck!

If it fits within your

If it fits within your budget, when my kids were the age of your kids...we had them going to Gymboree or My Gym classes on Saturday morning. Of course, they loved it. But, the key thing was that at that young age, these are all "parent-child" classes; in that you are in the class with all the other parents. Given that the class is on a Sat. - there are lots of other working parents like yourself (the stay-at-home mommies might take an 11a.m. Tues. class!).

I met some of my very closest friends by simply going to a My Gym class. Now I even go out once/month for my "girls night out dinner group" with 4 other My Gym moms!!
...and we don't even do the classes anymore!!

Happy2BMommy, is a stay-at-home mom who just turned 40 (argh!) with a 7 yr. old daughter and a 5 yr. old son, and is a discussion leader for arizonamoms.com living in Scottsdale.

Thank you for this

You've been given some great ideas already, but you also might want to try meetup.com I've joined some fabulous groups. Of course, I'm a stay at home mom so there are lots of groups out there for me, but I've also seen many groups for working and/or single moms. It's worth a shot and it's been a great experience for me!

Thank you for the site
