New mom and new to Arizona

aerogl99's picture

I am a 26 year old mother of a 1 month old baby girl and I am also new to Arizona. I moved here from Michigan in January due to my husband's job. I don't know very many people here so I am looking to meet other mom's like myself in the Phoenix/East Valley area. Does anyone know of any good mom's groups in the area?

Thanks!

Sarah

Welcome Sarah!! I would

Welcome Sarah!! I would recomend Scottsdale Healthcare campus's. Call them and find out when they have their Moms on the Move classes. I found great friends and got wonderful advice (different topics every week). I went with both my girls and still stay in contact with lots of them. My oldest is now 8.
BTW the classes were free so I would think they would still be.

Good luck!!

Many churches in the valley

Many churches in the valley offer MOPS. It's a program for moms to connect with moms and discuss topics pertinent to parenting. Go to MOPs International and find a MOPS program near you!

Welcome to Arizona! It took

Welcome to Arizona! It took me a little time to feel settled here myself, but now I just love it.

When we first moved here I joined a MOPS group at a local church and that was nice. I also went to the local public library's story times and met other moms there as well. It's great when your kids are old enough to go to school because you have a chance to make friends with the other moms.

Don't worry -- you'll find lots of opportunities to meet people -- especially in the winter months when the weather's so great and everyone's enjoying the outdoors.

I also recommend Baby

I also recommend Baby Time/Story Time at the local libraries. I started taking our son when he was 6 months and we've been going for the last three years. We've made friends there and have gotten together for playdates. Go to www.phxlib.org to find libraries in your area.

You may try introducing yourself to moms in your neighborhood. I know it's was hard at first but soon you'll meet one mom and her child and she'll tell you about other famiies. Our son and I play in the front yard and say hi to neighbors as they go by and also when we go for walks or bike rides on our streets. We now have a group of mostly moms and we go out for "girls night out," host candle parties, a block party and block watch meeting once or twice a year.
