clap clap clap!! scream and yell!!! my son just won wrestling regionals on saturday. I am so proud of him! we tried and tried to get him to wrestle at 152 lbs at the begining of the season but he wanted to stay at 140 lbs even though tat would mean he had to watch what he ate... a lot. but he wanted tostay 140 because there is this kid that is also 140 that he wanted to beat. he worked so hard and it finally paid off. this other kid put him in a choke hold last year. it cut off his air and my son passed out and had two mini seizures. the year before he popped hisshoulder out. this kid always wins in the first few minutes becasue he wrestles dirty and knows how to get away with it. i was so scared on saturday. just thinking what he was going to do to my son. he was undefeated this season. well Jay sure took care ofhim. Jay told me he was going to make him go all three periods becuse the kid is nto in shape. he is used to winning quick. they went all three periods and he was dying, stumbling around and stuff. and MY son Jay, beat him by 15 points which is a tech and is worse than being pinned. he was just throwing him around and then letting him get up and doing it over and over. when they raised his hand the whole gym stood up and started cheering. I'm sure it was a lot fo parents with kids this kid had hurt. so next week we travel to the Emerald City (Phoenix) for state tournament. I knwo they will meet again at state becasue they are both seeded number one and two. unless somene else beats him before thechampionship round. i know it doenst sound right to be happy but my boy has taken so much from him, surgery on his shoulder and that passing out deal, that he deserves to win. iknow im gonna get a lot of negative coments form you moms but i know werstlingis dangerous, walking down the street is dangerous. jsut be happy with me and send a clap clap clap

Congratulations, very proud

Congratulations, very proud mom. Good for your son! I admire his determination. You have every reason to be proud.

Ah, there's potential for every sport to be hazardous. My 8-year-old does capoeira, a Brazilian fight-dance that's very fast and acrobatic, with lots of kicks. He's trained to keep his arms up to protect his face and use his brain so he doesn't get hurt, but chances are he will at some point. I don't think we can keep our kids in plastic bubbles, just be diligent about safety.

I interviewed the moms of four NFL players this past week, and they were adamant that we moms support our sons in whatever activity they choose. That means being there on the sidelines as often as we can. Loreanne Tomlinson, mom of LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers, told me, "We are their first - and forever - favorite fans." So keep cheering, rugersmom.

Congrats! It's great seeing

Congrats! It's great seeing your child do well in anything. I love cheering on my kids in their activities - right now both are in soccer.

It's not a championship, but my daughter scored the first goal of the game this weekend and my son was a great defender.

As for wrestling, it doesn't matter what others think. It's better than sitting home watching TV. And if he likes it and you support it, that really is all that matters. Besides, taking a jog down the street can be dangerous.

I think my husband - who once upon a time was a wrestler in school - would like our son to get into wrestling later. I'd rather have Alex take up golf (so he can use in biz later), but it's up to Alex not us. And we'll be cheering him on! Woo hoo!
