It's the most wonderful time of the year --- Football Season! And it kicks off this weekend with the Hall of Fame Game featuring my much-beloved home team the Washington Redskins! Life is good

So go 'Skins, welcome another great NFL seaon, and I can't wait because there is no such thing as "bad football" --- it's all good!

Any other moms who are NFL fans? And who do you root for?

New to AZ --- and missing autumn leaves and the smell of apple orchards!

I am a Vikings fan, but my fiance is a Colts fan so we watch them a lot more (since they are on more than the Vikings) and I have to admit that I am starting to like the Colts almost as much as my Vikings.

I have recently become a

jackie_is_a_mom's picture

I have recently become a huge cardinals fan! My boyfriend has always loved football me not so much. Not until my cousin from california bought season tickets for the cardinals first season at UPS. He would give me the tickets since he could not make it out from cali all the time and we would go and I got hooked form the first game. Its been a couple seasons and I love going to the games and just watching football overall. I cant wait! im also very excited for ASU football!!! woohooo....

Our son just started third

Katy1999's picture

Our son just started third grade yesterday, and my husband remarked that the beginning of the school year excites him because he knows that means football season is near!
I am more of a collegiate sports fan- of course we watch NFL football, but my husband and I prefer college football.
We are big-time ASU fans - I'm an alumni(well, sort of - I did go there for a few years but I never actually got a degree!), and he is a lifelong fan of the sun devils. We just renewed our season tickets to ASU football this afternoon, as a matter of fact. Our son is going to be so excited, I think he may be the biggest fan of all...we have the cutest picture we took of him standing with the choir at his school in last years Christmas play...all the other kids are smiling politely, posing for pictures, and my son is making the ASU pitchfork sign for my husband.. He's just starting flag football this year, so it is going to be football mania in our house this fall.

Now - I am a HUGE basketball fan - being from Kentucky, it's in your blood - basketball is akin to religion in those parts -so of course I am a Kentucky Wildcat fanatic. I have relatives who have had heart attacks and died while listening to UK on the radio, and I can remember my father breaking coffee tables, etc, from pounding on them while watching Wildcat games on TV. I have high hopes for the program this year - they have floundered in the past few years, but greatness is in their destiny so it's just a matter of time before they are the "comeback Cats" again.
I am thinking of sending my son to a basketball camp at the University of Kentucky next year - he did the Herb Sendek camp this summer, and if at all possible I'm sending him to both in 2009.

Go Big Blue!!!

GO TITANS!!! I pull for the

Got to love the Philly eagles! Although my hubby LOVE the forty niners so we are in constant argument (all in good fun!) about what jersey our daughter is going to wear!

Of course you cant go wrong with the Sun Devils. Erickson made quite the impression on us last year!! and if all goes right we will take down the bulldogs come September 20th!!
We are big fans at our house!! We ended up splurging this year and up graded our season tickets.

I LOVE FOOTBALL!!!

I can see about the jersey

I can see about the jersey thing, we always argue about jersey she will wear also, well for basketball. Although I took the initiave and made her laker blankets! lol she has 3 small sized ones and one big one. I am going to make her a cardinals one though.

Miss the friday night high school games (well, that was forever ago)!!

I was born a NY Giant fan.

braybee's picture

I was born a NY Giant fan. The stadium is literally 5 miles from where I grew up! My family has had 8 season tickets since the stadium was built. My husband is the biggest NYG fan on the planet and I used to wonder if those tickets were the reason he was with me :). We enjoyed 3 seasons of games together before we moved here, and he obviously loves me more than I realized when he gave them up. Now, he only sheds a few tears while watching any home games on the Sunday Ticket!

Oh and yes, last January was the icing on the cake! Having moved here, had a superbowl in glendale, and our Giants actually go all the way...whoo hoo! He just about pooped himself!

Anyone's hubby's take the whole fantasy football as seriously as mine? It's a bit much if you ask me!! Drafts and trades and blah blah blah. Let's just watch the game!!!

LOVE football season. It's

LOVE football season. It's not quite the same without the crisp fall nights, but still am so excited. Go VIKINGS!

My marriage is built on team rivalry - he's from Iowa and hates the Vikings. We love watching the Big Ten games, especially Gopher/Hawkeye games. We're hoping to get to an ASU game, but we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if we actually cheered for the same team (he'd probably pick the other just to spite me!)

So, is anyone at all interested in a fantasy football league? Since I'm not working in an office, I'm afraid I'll miss out this year.

I'm with you

I was pleased to see the

Happy2BMommy's picture

I was pleased to see the Redskins logo for your picture!! My "hometown team" as well. I grew up in Potomac, MD and went to Wootton HS in Rockville.
When the Redskins won the super bowl with John Riggins, I remember how ALL public schools in DC, MD and VA considered it an excused absence if you went downtown to the victory parade (in the pouring rain) to cheer for the Smurfs, the Fun Bunch, the Hogs, etc. etc.
Obviously, there were about 4 people out of 1,600 at my school that day! :)

I giggled though reading Braybee's comments about the Giants. So with the Superbowl here...did you all go to it?
I wasn't much of a Giants fan (being a Redskins fan), but we ended up having several of Payton and Eli Manning's family stay with us for the game (Archie Manning's sister and her husband). Archie and Payton then got us tickets as a thank you. It was way cool having the Mannings here in our home for the festivities...so I definitely was pleased that they won!

MiriamVS's picture

I used to debate Wootton in High School (back in the age of dinosaurs!) I was born in DC, grew up in Manassas, VA and worked in Fairfax, so I know the Metro area well --- and I really miss it! I too remember the "Glory Days" of Joe Theismann, the Deisel, the Fun Bunch, the Hogs, etc. and am anxiously awaiting a return to our deserved NFL glory.

That's so exciting having the Mannings stay at your house! The whole family is NFL royalty!

RE: The Redskins --- hubby and I spent 8 YEARS on the waiting list for Season Tickets then finally got them 2 years ago, only to be transferred here! We kept them though and I'm hoping to make at least one 'home game' this year.

By the way, does it seem odd watching football at 10 in the morning to you? I'm still used to 1pm being the 'early game!'

New to AZ --- and missing autumn leaves and the smell of apple orchards!

That is so unbelievably cool

braybee's picture

That is so unbelievably cool that the Mannings stayed with you!
Unfortunately, we did not go to the game. Being that the tickets were still in our name, we entered the lottery to be given the opportunity to buy Superbowl tickets as NYG season ticket holders, but never got selected :( We couldn't justify paying thousands of dollars from ticket brokers here when we had a newborn at home. (Well...I couldn't....hubby would have sold a limb to go! haha!) I made peace with not going, especially b/c I went to Superbowl XXI when the Giants played the Bronco in Pasadena. We don't talk about that too much in this household b/c of the jealousy factor! LOL!

And Miriam...the 10am thing is TOO weird...but actually kind of neat that we wake up and watch and don't have to wait around until the afternoon, huh??

I do like not having to wait

MiriamVS's picture

I do like not having to wait until afternoon to watch Football --- but what I REALLY love is no more having to stay up past midnight to watch the night games! I remember so many times falling asleep with 2 minutes left in the Monday Night game, only to wake up hours later and "Entertainment Tonight" was on, and I'd be shouting at the TV: "Who won?!?!? WHO WON!?!?!"

Here the night games are at 5pm and 6pm, not 8pm and 9pm like back east --- so I can enjoy the games over dinner, stay awake for the whole thing, and still get a full night's sleep!

My husband becomes glued to

ArizonaMoms's picture

My husband becomes glued to the TV when football season begins. He's from Kansas City, so he has long been a fan. We used to go every year since his brother had several season tickets. They've been losers of late, so I've not heard him speak much of them.

He also follows Missouri football.

I'm not into either, but I'll watch every now and then to be a supportive wife.

LOVE football and hockey!!

3XYs's picture

LOVE football and hockey!! I'm a Cards fan all the way. I am an AZ native and have been a fan since they came here. My husband loves the NYG. He was mad at me because I wouldn't let him sell our car & boat so he could get Superbowl tickets back in January!! I made up for it and got him tickets for when the Giants come in November.

By the way, University of Phoenix stadium holds daily tours. Adults are $6 and kids are $4. Its a little over an hour long. You get to go into the visiting teams locker room. I have pics of my kids sitting in what was Manning's locker from the Superbowl! One hint if you go....DON'T buy your tickets online, buy them at the ticket window. Ticketmaster doubles the price with all of their extra little charges! I paid $17 for (1) adult and (2) children at the stadium as opposed to $43 from Ticketmaster online!!

Yes, I have 3 boys. No, I am not trying for a girl.

I can't wait! I LOVE

GlendaleMom's picture

I can't wait! I LOVE football! I am a true Cardinals fan for several years now. Win or lose...that is my team! I've had season tickets for about 6 years now. Woohoo!! I can't wait! This Thursday is the first home game and I AM THERE! 4th floor on the 25 yard line home side...cheering on my team! What's funny is my husband isn't too much of a football fan (I know, hard to believe), but he goes with me and tries. haha. The last home game of the season, I yelled to give the ball to Boldin...next thing you know they did and he scored a touchdown. I jumped up, yelling, I called that play, I called that play. I turn around to high five my hubby and he's sitting down! What? Are you kidding me? Your sitting down after a touchdown? I'll continue to try to get him more involved....haha

There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one!

Our whole family is into

JuneSlager's picture

Our whole family is into football and I can not wait to really get back into it after the Olympics. Last year we did family fantasy football and it really got me back into following NFL football. I was a die hard Cleveland Browns fan growing up but since they moved to Baltimore I have had a hard time embracing the new team. Our family is divided with two rooting for the Browns, 2 rooting for the Bengals and 1 Steeler's fan.
One thing we can all agree on though is that we are all die hard OSU Buckeye fans.
Go Bucks!
