Gymnastics

My daughter keeps expressing an interest in gymnastics. I've been trying to steer her towards other things because it;s my understanding that it can be very damaging to young bodies. I danced for 16 years, which is not as jarring, but I can see how much it hurts me now. Does anyone know more about this? Maybe I am fretting over nothing.

Hi Lara,

I think the issue you are referring to is the girls training at the Olympic level which is extraordinary too strenuous for their bodies in my opinion. The higher the level, the more demand on their bodies and the higher the risk of injuries. I know this from experience for myself in snow skiing when I was just a level below the Olympic level which was the national level.

I know a couple of parents took their daughters to this place and were very satisfied with this place. Maybe you can check this place out?

I have been in gymnastics my whole life and havent had any problems. (age 7- 22) Of course i am not in it now, just do the ocational adult tumbling class.
Just as in any sport there is always a risk of being injured but as long as you eat right etc...i dont see a problem.

My daughter took her love of gymnastics and swimming and brought them together when she joined the Arizona Aqua Stars a Synchrnized Swim Team in Mesa, AZ. It is a great sport for your young girls who love the water, gymnastics, and want to work as a team!
