Hot, hot, hot

We took a little trip to Colorado last week. We try to go at least once a year since we have family in Denver and Colorado Springs.

My husband's preference is to go during ski season when it's cold. Very cold.

My husband wants not only for the kids to play with their cousins (on both sides of the family), but also to learn to ski. I get his thinking. I didn't learn until I was 22, so I knew how much it could hurt. The kids have always thought it was fun - well, mostly fun. Julia did realize it could hurt last year and was a bit hesitant about getting her skis on this year. Let's just say it went quite well after a few runs.

Getting up there, I recall the pilot saying the temperature was 19 degrees. Brrr. Since moving to Arizona 7 years ago, we have slowly gotten rid of anything really warm. About all we have now are ski jackets. We pulled them out as soon as we got our luggage.

On our last day, there was snow on the ground and a chill in the air. But it was going to be a "warm" day in Denver. High 50s, I recall. We wore our light jackets to the airport. By the time we stepped off the plane, I knew the kids would start complaining about the heat. Temps were about 30 degrees apart.

When we climbed into the car, I took a peek at the temperature gauge. It read 87 degrees. And it was indeed pretty darn hot. Julia asked if we could jump in our pool. If it weren't so dirty from not cleaning it for a week, I would have let her.

Summer? I would love to be

Summer? I would love to be able to plan that far ahead--we're lucky if we manage to plan 2-3 weeks in advance of anything!

Summer vacation is usually a medley of interstate travel and long-distance plane rides (if we can afford them). Usually, the destination is less populated and woodsy, and must involve trout fishing/flyfishing, and be accessible to family-friendly camping, pools and/or swimming hole options.

Summer is the time we get to see our friends and relatives, and they are conveniently flung into mountain ranges near and far. The one place we haven't gone that I hope to take my husband and son to visit soon is Niagara Falls, which is also conveniently located close to family and friends I haven't seen in awhile in both New York and Canada.

I love the cold. I'm from

I love the cold. I'm from the Windy City and was a ski instructor at Copper Mtn, Co...in my former, pre-triplets, life.
I have no idea why I live in Butt Sweat Africa hot Arizona.
I would rather ski than sweat my *$$ off playing golf or burning my *$$ off on some swings at a park where there is not shade.

Thank goodness for the mountains nearby, the swimming pools and movie theatres!
