Where to stay near Sea World

We are planning a road trip with another family to San Diego to visit Sea World, and also, the beach. I need help with a great hotel nearby that is not the most expensive place to stay. Any good experiences would be greatly appreciated. I want one with air conditioner too.

Also, which are the best beaches to visit and any other activities nearby that our family can enjoy? Where to purchase discounted tickets?

Thanks so much!

I can't help you with

I can't help you with hotels, but Belmont Park is a great place for family and kids. No admission; it has some carnival rides, stores, and has access to the beach, too.
Have fun!

We once stayed at Paradise

We once stayed at Paradise Point Resort & Spa, it was walking distance to Sea World (about a mile or so, if you consider that walking distance with kids!) We actually drove to SW, because we stayed there in July and it was hot Hot HOT! It is a nice place with its own beach and the rooms were great. We got a good rate through getawaytoday.com. The time of year you book is key, though, we always go mid-summer and the rates are lower. I can't remember what we paid, but I remember that I was very happy with the deal we got.

We are going to seaworld

We are going to seaworld too. For hotels have you tried hotels.com? The Catamaran is nice or if you really want to be budget friendly the Best Western Inn Misson Bay is not bad. Getawaytoday.com offers some great packages. Also, if you do go on hotels.com and find a hotel you like call that hotel and usually they offer discount tickets to nearby attractions. One last thing you might want to try is employeenetwork.com, if you or your hubby's employer is listed they offer buy one get one day free tickets. Hope this helps! :)

We stayed at the Days Inn

We stayed at the Days Inn Hotel circle last year for 2 nights. It has a shuttle that will take you to and from Sea World and the apt. It was around $80/night. Good value for the $$. It was not far from Sea World maybe a couple miles, but we actually used the hotel to and from Hawaii flying in and out of San Diego apt. It was really affordable and the rooms were big. Nothing fancy but it was clean and the staff nice. Almost every Days Inn I have stayed in has been nice.

This hotel for the most part gets good reviews on tripadvisor

The "Hotel Circle" exit/area

The "Hotel Circle" exit/area on Highway 8, just West of the 5, is an area full of reasonably priced hotels.

Depending upon the ages of your kids, a fun, inexpensive activity one day is to go to La Jolla and take them downstairs from the shell shop down into the CAVES! Very cool...big "neat-o factor" with kids of all ages.
I think it is $1 a person or something...

I keep hearing about the great train museum in Balboa Park. We still haven't done it yet, but are hoping too!

My kids favorite activity from our last trip was also in La Jolla, we took them to the Scripps Aquarium. Wonderful!!!!!!

I had a horrible experience

cmc702's picture

I had a horrible experience renting a rental home on the beach, so go with a hotel. We ended up moving to a Days Inn just a few miles from Sea World. It had a complimentary shuttle and free breakfast.

In terms of cheap Sea World tickets, have you checked their website? Last year they ran a deal where you paid for one day and you got the rest of the year for free. It was an AWESOME deal. If they're not doing that this year, as the other moms said getawaytoday.com has some pretty sweet deals (and they're a reputable company). If you book through them, google "getawaytoday coupon codes." I think I saved $10 or $15 that way.

Good luck!

The tripadvisor.com site is

The tripadvisor.com site is great. We stayed in San Marcos at a Hampton Inn (our favorite hotel), which is north of San Diego, but we were also going to go to LA that next day so it was on the way. The hotels are WAY cheaper if you get out of San Diego. We went to Coronado beach, that is the only one we've been to in San Diego. It was kind of cool because the sand has flecks of gold in it, the kids got a kick out of it. It wasn't very crowded but there weren't any activities, it is more just a hang out, lay on the beach and play in the sand type beach.
