Hello,
It all depends on how much you want to pay. You will pay top dollar to stay on the water front, but it is worth it. Here are a few hotels I would suggest.
Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort
Hotel Oceana
Hotel Mar Monte (this one is next the the Zoo as well)
Inn by the Harbor
If you need a less expensive Hotel try Motel 6. They have one that is one block off the ocean and it's pretty nice.
I am from Santa Barbara and can give you more details if you need them. You can also try www.santabarbara.com
Good Luck and Have fun!!

I absolutely want to stay on the beach. Hotel Mar Monte looked great, but when I went on to Yahoo Travel, the most recent reviews were awful. Should I just ignore them?
Out of the four that you mentioned on the beach, which would you recommend? Our daughter is 11 months old, so we wanted to go to the zoo and to the wharf, beach, etc. for Mother's Day/my birthday. Do you have any restaurant recommendations? What about wine tours?
Feel free to e-mail me at sirbracy2000@yahoo.com. I can't thank you enough for your help!!

When traveling to the
When traveling to the California coast I typically like to stay at a home or condo rental - as they have washer/dryers, pots/pans, refrigerator, stove, everything you'd have at home (It's like a vacation at home but by the beach). It is way better than a hotel room - especially with two little boys. I've rented at the following place - just look up Santa Barbara: www.vacationrentals.com. Good luck!

There is a little town
There is a little town outside (and inland) from Santa Barbara called Solvang. It's the cutest little Danish town you have ever seen, really good treats too! They have a merry go round that your daughter might like. Their website is www.solvangca.com
Also, try and stay in Santa Barbara for their farmers market, you can get the best berries and flowers! The Santa Barbara Mission is a neat place to visit, lots of history there. Very beautiful grounds too.
It's one of my favorite towns, have a great time!
We stayed at the Hotel Mar
We stayed at the Hotel Mar Monte and had absolutely no problems last October. It was a great location and we would stay there again.

Could you tell me a little
Could you tell me a little bit about your stay at the Hotel Mar Monte? Did you stay in an ocean-view room? Was the Amtrack nearby? Were the rooms clean? Thank you!!
~Cathy
Our room did have an ocean
Our room did have an ocean view as we requested. The room was clean and trust me, i would have noticed if it wasn't clean. I also would have had no problem looking for another hotel if i thought the room was not clean.
If there was an Amtrack constantly passing, i didn't hear it. But i am not sensitive to noise when i sleep and don't necessarily have to have my surrounding quite.
