Teen heroes

I got this release about National Volunteer Month from Taco Bell Foundation for Teens and Think MTV. The two are seeking to honor "amazing teens" via their Teen Hero Awards.

But you have just a few days left to enter. Maybe with the TV off this week, this can be something you do together with your teen.

You need to submit a nomination form and an essay - obviously original - with 100 to 250 words explaining why the teen is a hero.
Nominations are due April 25 and can be submitted via www.teenheroawards.com.

I'm told one Phoenix area teen hero will receive a $5,000 grant to present to "an eligible charity" of their choice, as well as compete for the grand prize - a $10,000 grant.

Meanwhile, more than 100 area Taco Bells - in the spirit of giving back - are holding a fundraiser through April 30 to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix. Check with stores for details.

Arizona Moms Editor Yvette Armendariz shares stories about raising her kids and tips for busy parents in her Time-starved (goddess) Mom blog. She and her husband are raising two children, ages 8 and 11.
