Trick Or Treat for UNICEF

Natalie's picture

Hi Ladies,

Has anyone done Trick or Treat for UNICEF last year or in year's past? Are you considering it again this year?

Wondering if it is fun and easy....

My son is too young, but I

My son is too young, but I used to do it all the time when I was a kid (through church). We always did it to coincide with Halloween, and would do both trick or treating and Unicef at the same time. I always enjoyed it; it was a great feeling doing something for others in need. I'd have to ask my Mom for her opinion, but I don't believe it was really hard on her; we (the kids) did the collecting, and then brought it in to Sunday school, so my Mom's role was fairly minimal.

Would you be interested in

Would you be interested in having you and your family highlighted in a story in Raising AZ Kids Magazine about the UNICEF program? A friend of mine is looking for someone who has done it in the past and who may do it in the future. It would be in their September Issue. If yes, send me a quick email to my work email at info@beckmarketingservices.com.

I have not ever done it with

I have not ever done it with my children. Not b/c we are against collecting donations for charity. But rather, b/c most of the homes we go to have families sitting outside with their bowls of candy...waiting for the kids to show up.

It seems to me that they are NOT sitting around with a pile of spare change, and I believe I'd be inconveniencing and hassling them to "leave their candy bowl, go inside, and root around for money" when they were not expecting to do so.

But perhaps it'd be just fine?! I've just never tried it myself.

Would I be guilting them into paying b/c some little cute kid is standing there?

I'd also hate to build it up to my kids as something nice to do, and have them only collecting $0.62 cents by the end of the night. They be disappointed as well to find a box with coins that barely cover the bottom.

I'd love to hear if it is more successful than I am imagining.

Sure!!! It would be lots of fun! The only thing is my kids school doesn't do it (or at least I don't believe they do and no one hit me up for money last year when trick or treaters came to my door). It was a long time ago to (like 20 -22 years ago). If you want me to my email is phoenixgrlkim1@yahoo.com.

I've always thought asking

I've always thought asking for money and candy was presumptiuous so I made my kids choose one. Most people are not prepared to hand out money and they have already "given at the office."
