ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?

phoenixgrlkim1's picture

I am absolutely infuriated by something that happened this morning on my way in to the office. I'm driving down a side road to get to Scottsdale Rd and this car pull out of a shopping center directly in front of me. She had plenty of room to turn left and keep driving and I'd have to slow down a lot not to hit her (I was doing about 40-45), but then she STOPPED. Yes, she stopped and I hit my brakes so I wouldn't T-bone her and wreck my car. More importantly, I did everything to avoid the accident includes screeching to a stop (skidding a little mind you), tires were smoking, I stalled my standard out completely and as I'm sitting there completely shaken up, I hit my horn, raise my hand and start to open my door to check on her and things. You know what she did, she waved at me like I was her best friend and drove off leaving me there totally in tears. WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!? I couldn't believe it...I litterally came within a couple of feet of hitting her (yes that's how close I was) and I couldn't believe that she could just drive away like oh well. Had I not been paying attention, or talking on the cell, or changing a radio station or something if minorly distractining I would have severely hit her at a huge impact (I probably would have t-boned her at least at 35-40 mph) that she would have been seriously hurt or killed even (I would have hit her probably dead on her door telling from where I stopped and where her car was). Not too mention my car is brand new and it would have been completely destroyed. Ugh!!! I'm so mad lately at how people drive in this town. Every one is so la di da in space.

I agree..I almost hit a cop

I agree..I almost hit a cop the other day, that would have been fun :) I was completely stopped at a red light waiting to continue straight. The cop was also completely stopped, opposite me, waiting to turn left . The light went green so i start to go and the cop decides he needed to make his left turn first and zips right in front of me. I had to hit the brakes not to hit him. No lights or anything...Alot of people are very la di da..I'm glad you were not hurt though!!

I am astounded at the people

susan_hampton's picture

I am astounded at the people who REFUSE to let me merge in front of them when a lane is ending. They will actually SPEED up to avoid letting me in front of them, honk and gesture rudely at me, as though I am doing something wrong by trying to merge. Mind you I have NEVER had an accident, or a ticket and I always let people in when they are signaling even if they are being jerks and NOT signaling.

It's funny you posted

It's funny you posted this!!! I work right off of Scottsdale Rd where they are doing a TON of construction and they are always shutting down different lanes. I let the people merge, but I ALWAYS get the person that will go into the lane ending and speed up then want to merge at the last minute...THAT DRIVES ME INSANE!!!

You know when people are at

Lavender_Sea's picture

You know when people are at a dead stop, and your stuck in a merging lane, and those people who try to ride out the emergency lane just to get in front of you and other people? Yeah I'm the truck driver that parks right in front of them so they can't cut off anymore people. It drives me crazy. Then they get mad, but oh well people aren't allowed to be rude while I'm somewhere in the mix of drivers. Guess they just have to sit it out and wait just like the rest of everyone stuck in the lane.

It drives me insane how

JuneSlager's picture

It drives me insane how distracted drivers appear to be anymore. There is a growing number that have no clue that others on are on the road with them. It really makes me nervous now that my children are starting to drive.

The lady that was in front of you today was in her own world relying on others to watch out for her. She is truly fortunate that you were the one behind her. I am just sorry that it has effected the start to your day. Have a good one.

Two days ago my sister was

karilouMomof2's picture

Two days ago my sister was in a car accident. (Thank God she is doing good.)

She was driving to work at 5:45am and a man in a heavy duty Chevy truck ran a red light and t-boned her. She said she saw him coming and luckily hit her gas. He smashed her back part of her car and trunk. It spun her around. She said she was in shock and her head killing her (ended up with a mild concussion), when this guy came up to her door and said "didn't you see the light?" Her reply was "yes, mine was green." The guy didn't ask her how she was or anything but walked off. She saw a witness talking from his car to the man and she thinks he might have handed over a card but she looked down and when she looked up he was gone. My sister inquired about the witness and the guy said "I don't know where he went or who he was." She thinks he saw this guy run the light and stated that but the guy who caused the accident blew it off.

She now has no car, her daughters' car just broke down and she is devastated. She can't believe this man is lying. By the way, his truck just had a couple of dents on the front bumper and hers' will likely be totaled.

If you witness an accident please wait for the police or give your information to BOTH parties. It will help in determining what happened.

She also said she was amazed about how some people reacted. Some people were yelling and honking as they drove through the intersection. Apparently they didn't like having to wait because of the accident.
Amazing.

Arizona has the worst

MiriamVS's picture

Arizona has the worst drivers I have EVER seen (although to be fair, I have never driven in California!)

One of my FIRST posts on this site was how shocked I was after moving to AZ from the East Coast to find that here it is commonplace for drivers to make left turns from the right lane, to cross 3 lanes of traffic without looking, to chat away on the cell phone while driving (illegal where I'm from!) and NO ONE EVER USES TURN SIGNALS HERE!!!!

Sheesh it's a wonder any of us are alive!

New to AZ --- still working out the kinks!

That guy should be arrested

That guy should be arrested for hit and run. I hope the cops are actively looking for him!

Kim, glad to hear that you

MOMieOF2's picture

Kim, glad to hear that you are safe and that nothing tragic occured because of this. I understand your frustration after several years of driving on the interstate from home to college I have adapted to these crazy drivers. Even though I hated when the speed limit was 55 mph on the interstate I think those days people were more cautious and in less of a hurry. One word of advice my dad continues to share with us is "you have to drive for the other people on the road".

Thanks and I too am totally

phoenixgrlkim1's picture

Thanks and I too am totally relieved that I ended up ok and that neither of my kids were in the car with me. I will say that I (unfortunately) have learned to pay WAY more attention to the other drivers on the road in the last 5 years I've been back in AZ. I have driven (on a regular basis) in 3 other states and I will say that by far AZ drivers are the worst. Agreed as stated above, no one here uses a turn signal, people follow two close and the last 2 times I was in a accident, both times I was rear ended once a guy ran into me because the light had just changed to green and instead of stopping cause I still was stopped, he looked at the light and kept going in to my car and the next time by a lady reaching for her coffee and she rolled into me.
