Is Customer Service gone for good??

azpond's picture

Most of us are watching our spending these days. So you would think that retail stores would be stepping things up a bit and offering better customer service.

We went to The Children's Place looking for a birthday gift and for a hat for my daughter. I found an outfit I liked but didn't see the size I needed. I asked if they had any more stock in the back. The employee replyed, "I don't think so" but didn't go check. Then I asked another employee if they had any hats for infants and she stated she thought they had some but wasn't sure. She never tried to find any. WE WALKED OUT.

This is just one example of many experiences of bad or no customer service we are experiencing every day. Are there any stores that are going above and beyond to get our business? Does anyone have a favorite place to shop with great customer service?

Safeway has wonderful customer service for grocery items and I enjoy shopping at Khols, they have always been helpful when asked.

I had a very similar

I had a very similar experience at Children's Place! I did not buy anything there either, I felt that the employees could care less about the customers.

I have to say, even though it can be a lot more expensive, I've always had great customer service at Babies R Us. Last Christmas, my mom and I were trying to find a dress for my baby (who was 3 months at the time and BIG). They were out of her size of the dress we wanted, but this kid was so helpful and immediately offered to go and look in the back. Well, they didn't have any more of that particular dress but he brought out several different dresses in her size that had just come in. We ended up with the perfect 1st Christmas dress for my baby. I've always had great customer service there, so sometimes I'm willing to pay more (but it does depend on how MUCH more!) :)

I've had terrific customer service consistently at Old Navy, along with a wonderful willingness on the part of the staff in the dressing rooms to swap out different sizes. Plus, I think the quality and prices are terrific, especially during sales.

Safeway and Nordrstoms are great. I have never had a bad experience at either place.

As a matter of fact, the only grocery store i go to is Safeway and it's because of the customer service. They have spoiled me so much, that in the past when i have gone into another grocery store - i always leave thinking it's was a horrible experience.

I had a very bad experience

I had a very bad experience with the staff at Basha's grocery store when we first moved to Chandler last year. I haven't been back since, and in fact whenever anyone in the family refers to the store, we always call it 'The Evil Basha's!'"

So yes, customer service matters! Merchants who think it isn't worth bothering about are losing more than they realize.

I used to work in customer

I used to work in customer service, and when I would go into a store and couldn't find something I would ask if they could go check in the back or ask when a new shipment would come in or talk to someone else. Teaching customer service is foremost learning by example. When you get a supervisor involved they find out the right way to do things. It's totally a training issue.

I've always had good customer service at babystyle. Also at Saks, I even know two of the saleswomen by name (they know mine too) who I buy from now exclusively.
