I listened to the entire sermon in which Rev. Jeremiah Wright said, "America's chickens are coming home to roost" and frankly, I agree with him. It seems that most people whom I talk to about it also don't see the problem. It seems that the media were ready to jump on anything that MIGHT be controversial. But, when you look at the history of America, we have not been angels and should not be surprised that we have made enemies in the world. He seems to be an educated man, looking at the whole picture. Do others see this as well? Or does this come down to a classic
"Republican = pro war = anti Rev. Jeremiah Wright " and
"Democrate = anti war = pro Rev. Jeremiah Wright " ?????

First let me say - glad to
First let me say - glad to see a post from you.
Second, I would like to listen to this sermon. Can you tell me where you found it? Was it online?
I've kind of been ignoring all of the hype regarding Rev. Jeremiah Wright's remarks, because they were only bits and pieces of the sermon. Bits and pieces of what any of us say, can be taken out of context.

Optimist, I was JUST
Optimist, I was JUST thinking the same thing. What can I disagree with that he said?? Is it harsh, yes. Is it non-factual, no. Does it mean he doesn't love America because he isn't surprised people don't like us? No way. Is he a righteous, spiritual man? Seems to me he is. His church has done much to "walk" the walk of Jesus - caring for the poor and imprisoned.
I was thinking about the current attitude that if you criticize America you don't love it. I'd argue that we criticize our children's behavior and we still love them, why can't we criticize America and still love it? Trying to make something the best it can be is part of loving it.
I hope more people are willing to consider exactly what he said in its full context and then decide if anything he said was false. Trusting the media to present a whole picture when they'd rather just play 2 or 3 sound bites (of a 20+ year career as a pastor) is dangerous.
P.S. So glad to see you back Optimist.

I have not heard the whole
I have not heard the whole sermon....I do agree that bits and pieces of any conversation can be taken out of context.....what has been portrayed in the media so far has been very negative. I was also very turned off by Michelle Obama's comment that she has never been proud of this country until now. Never? I hope that was taken out of context, because despite it all I think we have had many proud moments. What would the outcome of wwII been without American intervention?
I can't deny that America has made some mistakes....and it does not suprise me that we have nemies and there are those who despise our way of life......but I bristle when anyone suggests that we "deserved" 9/11. I hope this is not really what he said.
Out of curiosity....do you ladies feel that we deserved the 9/11 attack? If so, could you say that to one of the family members of those killed? I don't think 3000+ innocent Americans deserved to be brutally murdered that day, no matter what the policies of this country have been.
i am not saying i am "ok"
i am not saying i am "ok" with the 9/11 attack or any attacks that happen around the world on a regular basis. I am not saying America or any other country deserves these types of attacks.
I am just saying I would like to hear the entire sermon in order to decipher for myself how i feel about it. Not the bits and pieces the media continues to run.

I didn't hear all of it
I didn't hear all of it myself...however, I can't say I wasn't unhappy with what he was saying, even if harsh.
I agree with lovemy4.....you can love something/someone and at times not like it/them.
I love America....however....hmmm !
I don't for one think we deserved 9-11...I have heard a few people say we deserved 9-11, and one I questioned and what he said was.The goverment has had many warning signs to back off.Mind our own buisness and the goverment failed to listen many...many times......
No, he didn't feel like American famlies should suffer because of the goverments lack of consideration of the warning signs...he was very touched personally of what happened like many of us...but he wasn't shocked.
ps.haven't seen much of your post lately Katy, hope all is well :)
Unfortunately, I could see
Unfortunately, I could see how Ms. Obama could say she was never proud of this country until now. As a black American, she has lived in a different America than us white girls. Sad but true. I am so proud to see a woman and a man of color running for President. Our country is diverse, the leader of the free world, and we need to be INclusive in the composition of the executive leadership of this great country. As for 911, I don't think most of us 'everyday' people know what happened that day why it happened. There are alot of secrets and it has never adequately been explained by our government, but I know it did not happen because other cultures "despise" our lifestyle. It's alot deeper than that. I just look forward to a new, better President and for some real re-building to start taking place, both within our country and around the globe.
