Crystal meth show-did you watch?

Happy2BMommy's picture

So for all the hype...did you actually watch it last night?
Did your kids watch it?

Did it prompt constuctive family discussions?

Was anyone sorry that they did watch it - in that, perhaps your kids were too young?

We skipped it - mostly b/c mine are quite young (1st grade)...but I must admit, I also wanted to see the Biggest Loser finale! :)

We TiVoed the show because

We TiVoed the show because we had soccer practice. I caught a very small part in checking the recording...only saw people talking about how much they regretted doing meth.

I'm watching it in full later in the week, when time permits - we have soccer again this week, girl scouts and birthday party shopping. And with the homework load, our evenings are full. Then I'll probably sit down and watch pertinent parts with my kids.

We've had several talks about the meth commercials and general drugs discussion. But I am looking to talk more indepth, particularly with my 11-year-old son.

I was scared by some intense drug images as a kid - probably 8 or 9 when I saw them. And I know some of that shock kept me from trying anything that wasn't prescribed. There wasn't any real glamour in those images.

Also keeping me away was respect for my family's feelings about drugs and what they do to your body and mind. I hope I can raise my kids the same way my parents did. A big part of me being the way I am is the open conversations I had with my parents. Plus, having a former police officer dad, I was scared of disappointing him.

We all watched it together,

We all watched it together, though my 5 year old had no interest and wandered off. My 8 year old was very interested, and asked very good, thoughtful questions during and after. I was really impressed with him. He often asked questions just to make sure he was hearing it right, like, "so it makes you really angry?" or "it messes up your body?" Later he asked questions like, "what did they mean about asking a boy to take his shirt off?" And "What if someone offers you candy, you tell them you don't take drugs, right?" All in all I thought we had some great discussions and he seemed to grasp the basic concept of "Be wary of anyone offering you something to 'make you feel' good" and the "Not even once" message.

My family all sat down and

My family all sat down and watched last night's special on meth. I was happy and relieved to know that my 6 yr old triplets didn't yet know what the word "drugs" were. I'm sure they will hear about it or be exposed to it soon enough.

I thought the special was very informative. In a way, I was hoping that they would show even more effects of the drug and what it has done to people. A picture is worth a 1000 words. The more "in your face" a fact can be, I feel the more effectiveness the point can be made to today's youth.

The special showed some scary stuff...but, it has to be shown to get the point across regarding how additive this drug can be.

I think my kids were a little frightened about what we had them sit down and watch, but they needed to see it.

All and all I think the special was very informative.
All schools should show it in their classrooms to reinforce the point.

I watched it with my kids

I watched it with my kids and we talked about it. What really got the message across was the actual users whose lives fell apart because of Meth --- that beats the heck out of hearing some 'boring adult' say drugs are bad.

In my own youth, I remember those "this is your brain on drugs" ads with the egg and the frying pan. And of course Nancy telling us to "Just say 'no!'"

I am not sure if you are

I am not sure if you are aware but the Arizona Meth Project must raise $2.5 million to spread the anti-Meth message to our teens and young adults through research-validated, high-impact advertising that communicates the risks of Meth use. The campaign’s core message “Not Even Once®” speaks directly to the highly addictive nature of Meth and the dangers our children face if they use this drug.

The commercials are done in a way that they have had an impact on the way my children ages 9 and 12 view meth. There is no value I can put on that and I am very thankful especially since Arizona is the number one state for meth use!

When I heard they needed to raise money to continue their campaign I could not help but feel like I needed to do something to help.

I recently started a web based company www.worldwidewebprotection.com with my best friend. Basically we are two moms on a mission to spread the word how important it is for adults to learn more about the risks our children face every time they are online. We are also offering a solution to keeping tabs on what is happening on your computer with an award winning PC and Internet monitoring software. This software allows you to know everything that is happening on your computer and the opportunity to discuss issues which may come up with your child that you may not have known otherwise. We encourage everyone to go to our website www.worldwidewebprotection.com to learn more about the risks our children face and to learn more about the software.

We are committed to donating 50% of our profits for every software purchase made through our website to the Arizona Meth Project.

Help protect your children online and be part of supporting a great cause. Visit our website today!
