Meth Ads

What do you think of the Meth Ads? My kids (8 and 6) haven't seen them all, but we definately have had to discuss the ones we've seen. The huge billboard about how meth won't help you "hook up" or something like that. Happily we didn't have to get in to the hook-up part, but we did discuss why the "boy looks so bad."

They are powerful Ads, I'd think they must be having an effect. What do you think??

I think the ads where they

I think the ads where they show the before and after pictures of the actual people before they started using meth and after when they look inhuman are the most powerful and in my mind most effective, because they are real examples. I don't think the other ones are as believable.
You can always tell these meth head idiots because they get that hardlined skeleton face......scary if you notice how many of these people are out walking around....

I LOVE those ads!!! They've had great success in Montana with these ads and I think that's where we got them. When you hear the radio ad of the boy from Mesa, it really hits home that Meth is in our own backyards. I think this goes along with another discussion we had about how much do you tell your kid about the dangers they face in the every day world. I'm all for scaring my kids about the dangers of drugs. The earlier the better! I know it's a type of brainwashing but meth is a scary fact of life.

I like that they make the

I like that they make the conversation so materially important--Meth's not cool looking the way it's portrayed, and these visual messages are important, visceral elements of a persuasive campaign. I'm happy to see them, even though they're a hard reminder of the new reality our kids face.

The one that shows the close

The one that shows the close up of the mouth and teeth is awful - in a good way. It really hits home the point.

Did you ever see the Oprah

Did you ever see the Oprah where a Meth-head Mom was interviewed. She's recovering, but was a PTA President, soccer Mom, type, who tried it to loose weight. It ruined her marriage, her job, she lost everything, spent her family's savings (which was significant) etc, etc.

It was eye opening for me, since I think of it as a young persons temptation, but apparently it really has had a terrible impact on all our society.

They say you really can't just try it, it is addictive from the first hit.
