Ok - this is kind of a personal question....but my son and I were listening to 97.5 on our way to summer school today, and the DJ was discussing how often women wash their hair.....he was suprised to learn that many of the women in his family wash their hair only once a week! He took calls on the subject, and quite a few women called in to say they wash their hair once once or twice a week. Really?????
I was suprised to hear that, too.............I could not imagine going for a week without washing my hair, I sometimes skip one day here and there, but that is all I can handle. During the summer, I have to wash it every single day or it doesn't feel right. I have heard that it's bad for your hair, but I condition a lot and sometimes let my hair air dry, and it seems to be in good condition despite daily shampoos. I am curious about what other women do.

I wash it everyday
I wash it everyday year-round. If not, my hair is extremely oily and unmanageable.

EVERY day. I've heard that
EVERY day. I've heard that some women don't and I've heard them say that you aren't supposed to wash it every day, because it dries it out, etc. But, that's why I have dry hair and use hair products, because I can't stand not washing it every day.

I take a shower every day
I take a shower every day and every time I take a shower I wash my hair, if I don't it feels all gross. So I wash my hair once a day, every day, sometimes twice a day. It rarely happens that I would miss a day but I did when I was in the hospital with a stone in my liver duct. But I like to be clean from my hair down to my toes everyday!
I'm curious to what other people will say as well.

I wash nearly every day. I tried doing every other day, but for the most part my hair looks too oily. I usually give my hair an off day on Saturday or Sunday.
I condition so that my hair doesn't dry out, and I put shine serum to keep it looking healthy.

I used to wash it every day, but now that the gray has crept in more, I wash it once a week to help the color last longer. If it looks oily I rinse with cold water and that does the trick or I use baby powder to soak up the oily. Every that I know washes once a week or twice at the most too and my hairdresser was the one that suggested I do that too. It seems to work since I can last six weeks now with the gray staying covered and it was four weeks before.

And your scalp doesn't itch? I'm not trying to clown on you, I'm just curious because mine drives me nuts if I don't wash every day.
I have gray hairs, too, but the issues I have between colorings are from regrowth, not fading, so I just use nice & easy root touch up.
I have oily hair so that
I have oily hair so that probably plays in to how much I wash it. I usually wash my hair every day and maybe skip it on a Saturday or a Sunday if I have nothing going on. I will say that when it was longer and I didn't put as much styling in to it, I'd only wash it every other day because the ends dried faster (and the oils would go a lot further), but even then I'd rinse it out with hot water to "clean" it. I thought the only people who didn't wash their hair more were "old" people who got it set at the hairdresser once a week.
"It's not to late to become who you've always wanted to be..."
I used to think that only
I used to think that only "old" people would not wash their hair every day too, but I have a lot of gray that has shown up in the last year or so-I am 35-so I am trying to keep it undercover for as long as possible without spending a ton of money on it. I'm sure I will eventually just have to go in every four weeks and then it won't matter how much I wash it.

I wash it everyday. My hair
I wash it everyday. My hair is super long and thick and if I let it air dry, it's still wet the next morning when I shower. I have tried to do the every other day thing as well and it drives me crazy. I can smell the oil in my hair and it just feels different too, so I have to wash it everyday for my own sanity. LOL

Yeah, there is absolutely a different smell to it, and I can't stand that . I don't know how others can. I sit next to my husband on the couch after tucking the kids in to bed and he plays with my hair or brushes it, until I'm relaxed and sleepy. I could never let him near my hair if I hadn't washed it that day. And if I didn't, how will I fall asleep?

I'm with you girls - my hair
I'm with you girls - my hair also smells funny if I don't wash it everyday. My husband thinks I'm crazy because he can't smell anything wrong, but I CAN! Sometimes I try to skip a day, but it drives me nuts the whole day, so it is just not worth it. It is kind of crazy though... the skin on my face is extremely dry and my hair gets oily??!? Anyone know the reason why?

When I hit 40 or so, I started washing every other day. It really helps prevent it from drying out. Plus, that was when I really started heavy duty highlights. My hair colorist recommends that I go 3 to 4 days without washing before I come in for highlights, because the oils help to protect the scalp. I haven't been able to go that long, but I'm sure my hair would be in better shape if I did.

I heard this on the radio
I heard this on the radio also...I couldn't imagine NOT washing my hair everyday! I wash my hair once a day...everyday. I have fine, blonde hair so it looks dirty and dull by the end if the day. Do these "once-a-week-washers" go to the gym or work out????...I just can't imagine. I actually talked to a friend of mine who only washes her hair once every 7 or 8 days and it just blew my mind. You know how your scalp smells wierd when your hair gets dirty...ewwwww! My husband would freak if I even attempted to try this because he hates when my hair smells even a little dirty, and I don't blame him. I guess everybody's hair is different :-)
I wondered about that,
I wondered about that, too.....I work out and I could not imagine not washing my hair afterwards.....hell, in this heat you break a sweat just stepping out the front door! I would think it would get really funky, but maybe not everyone sweats the same way I do! I guess if it works for them, cool!
I wash every other day
I wash every other day because I have very dried out hair. It always looks better on the day I dont wash. When I first started this I had someone say "Wow what did you do to your hair, it looks great?" I said "Oh I didn't wash it" I can't go more that one day because then it does itch.
I thought it was so funny how many people got involved in this post!!
I normally wash my hair
I normally wash my hair everyday. But, it's thick, long and curly. So when I actually take the time to flat iron it and style it, then I will skip a day or two. My hair is really dry, so the oily smell isn't a problem. And if it gets a little greasy looking the third day i just dust a little of my loose face powder in it (sounds gross but works great!) I try not to think about my hair too much anymore - I keep finding gray hair in new places so I just throw it back in a ponytail most days :)
I have long, thick, blonde
I have long, thick, blonde hair and I wash it every other day(unless I need to wash it 2 days in a row for a special occasion or something). I don't have an oily hair/scalp problem. In fact because I am pretty fair, I tend to be more dry than anything. Usually if I blow dry my hair the day I wash it, it still looks good the next day. If it looks a little rumpled, a pony tail or braid does the trick. My hairdresser always comments on how healthy it is, so it must work for me!
I usually wash it every

I wake up every morning with a stunning case of bed head. It's so short that it's easier to wash it than mess with it. It's usually dry by the time I'm finished getting ready.

I wash my hair every day but I don't do the wash, rinse, repeat. I wash, rinse, condition.
sure, fine, whatever
I wash my hair every 2-3
I wash my hair every 2-3 days. I have a lot of hair and it's curly, but really soft and fine. So the day I wash it can be kinda hard to style. The 2nd day it looks great and I have lots of volume. The 3rd day is usually good to and it depends on my mood.
My hair is my best feature and it's always shiny and healthy not oily. The only time it smells is if I'm out working in the yard, otherwise my head doesn't sweat enough to make my hair smell. Man that would bug!
If I wash my hair everyday I get tons of flyaways and it has no body. Being from Texas ya'll know I gotta have that BIG hair! lol

Every other day...dry
Every other day...dry damaged hair. But when I go back east, the humidity makes me wash it everyday...or it's just straight and limp and yucky.
When i was working i would
When i was working i would wash my hair daily. Since i have been a SAHM, i've been washing it every other day and let me tell you, my hair is much healthier. I have think wavy long hair. Well, it's to the middle of my back and that's long for me. ANd if i do not blow dry my hair either straight or wavy using a diffuser, i will have frizz. But with all of the highlights, blow drying and styling products, my hair has been much healthier washing it every other day. Plus, my hair looks really good the next day.
With that said, if i get hot and sweaty, i definitely have to wash my hair that day or it grosses me out. I have never noticed an odor, but everyones body is different.

Good question...my son every day because he says his scalp itches (he has psoriasis so I wonder if he should do it every other day), my daughter like every 2-3 days depending on how her hair is worn. If she does a lot of up do's it can go longer in between. She has asphergers so getting her to let me wash it in the beginning was challenge enough so I take full advantage she lets me do it now...
"It's not to late to become who you've always wanted to be..."
Kim, I have heard you
Kim, I have heard you mention the asphergers disease in a few posts and I have always wanted to ask you about it because I am not familiar with it. If you aren't offended by my bluntness, can you tell me a bit about it?
♥ "LIFE AIN'T ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL, BUT IT'S A BEAUTIFUL RIDE" ♥--Gary Alan
No not at all :).
No not at all :). Asphergers is a form of Autism. In lame man's terms (how it was described to me) is basically Autism to the slightest degree. My daughter is basically completely functional with her disability and I'm truly blessed because autism can be VERY difficult to work through with a child. Basically my daughter developed perfectly until about a year and 8 months when she suddenly stopped and regressed and stopped speaking and communicating. At first we thought her older brother was more dominant and just "talked for her," then we thought that she had a speech disability but in kindergarten we had her tested after she had other issues and developmental problems (ex: she loved water, but wouldn't swim or allow it to touch her head, she didn't like her hair combed / brushed or put up very often, she walked on her tippy toes still and she had bathroom issues). This is why you'll hear me preach a lot about if you have ANY concerns with your child's speech and motor skills to ask a pediatrician right away. Feel free to ask any other questions.

My daughters hair is washed
My daughters hair is washed every other day, with some exceptions. If we go to the park, or swimming, or she has the urge to put food in her hair, (she's 20 months and still does this occasionally) her hair gets washed that day/night.

My hair is washed every day. It is so fine it lays flat.
. My daughter's hair I wash once a week. I use to wash it every day. I am an adoptive mom to a biracial girl. I didn't know any better that it would dry her hair out. Now it gets conditioned every day. It was a hard habit to break.

How did you learn to do her hair? I had some African-American neighbors awhile back with a passel of girls, and I was totally amazed at how much time and energy they spent taking care of their hair (which was always perfect).

It has been interesting. She is Asian and African-American, so her hair is tight curls framing her face and thick wavy hair for the rest of it. She likes it long. My son takes a shower and
My son takes a shower and washes his hair every morning, same as I do. I also blow his hair dry every morning...his hair is kind of long....at one point it was down to his shoulders(he likes Steve Nash so he grew it out when his hair was longer) but now it's a little shorter. He sweats a LOT so if he didn't wash it every day, he'd stink!
I know some moms who don't have their kids shower every day, and they send the kids to school with uncombed hair and bed head, but you can tell they took the time to get themseleves ready, with makeup applied and styled hair........and I must confess I don't understand that. I like for my son to look clean and presentable. Maybe some kids fight it tooth and nail and its too much of a hassle to get them in the shower every day?
I saw a comment from a mom on some discussion board somewhere that she has her kids sleep in the shirts they will wear to school the next day, to save time in the morning! I don't think I would enjoy wearing clothes I slept in the night before to my office, so I can't imagine doing that to my son.....but whatever works, I guess.
I agree - having the kids
I agree - having the kids sleep in their clothes for the next day is wrong. I heard of a parent in the valley that does that. A friend who works at a day care and baby sits the kids for extra money, says she watches two boys whose mother does this.

I am sure it's different
I am sure it's different when you have more than one child to get ready in the morning.....but when I read that I wondered how much time that really saves.............it takes about 30 seconds to put on a shirt. My son picks what he'll wear the next day and he lays it out before going to bed every night. He has to get up early enough to eat breakfast and shower before we leave....maybe some people prefer to let the kids sleep right up until the very moment they have to leave and then hustle them out the door........lol
Ugh...sleeping in the same
Ugh...sleeping in the same shirt to wear to school? This thread has been eye opening. NO WONDER people are always commenting about how neat my kids look (and yes, I still enjoy dressing them in coordinating colors!). My next door neighbor actually told me that she's never seen my kids messy. I took that as a hint that she thought that my kids didn't play outside in the cul-de-sac often enough! I also always joke with the boys, as I bring them a towel when they are done with their shower, "All done? Are you the cleanest kid in town?" SOMETIMES, I let them skip a shower at night and have them take it in the morning if they've been swiming, but otherwise their fingernails just wouldn't stay clean. LOL....

out of curiosity...does your
out of curiosity...does your older son still accept your input about what he's going to wear?
the past year or so, my son has been totally adamant about it always being HIS choice....and most of the time I have no issue with that, his taste in clothes is good and he doesn't ask to wear anything offensive......but it seems he wants to wear the same three shirts over and over until they fall apart, and up until about a week or so ago, he insisted on wearing his levis a few times a week - even on days where he'll be playing outside. My husband says "just tell him he's not wearing that", but I don't think that's the right thing to do, it's just us imposing our will on him and he'll resent that.
I know wardrobe is a silly thing to argue about and he's getting older and more independant......but sometimes it drives me up a wall.........! I miss the days when I chose things for him and he wore them, no questions asked.
My son couldn't care less
My son couldn't care less what he wears (unless it feels uncomfortable), but his clothes are pretty much presorted when I buy what I know that he likes. I thought that was one area that boys didn't care about but I'm finding that my 5 yr old likes to have a say - he always wants "sports" clothes. For now, anyway, my little guy wants to be like brother, so I'll take it as long as I can! You never know when there will be a photo op (often! LOL), and coordinating colors are easier to scrapbook!

I wash mine every day with the exception of a Sat. or Sun. if I'm just lazing around not doing anything and don't plan to leave the house. My hair is thin and fine and whether I have any product in it or not from the previous day it's very greasy the next day. Personally I feel gross I guess would be the best way to put it if I don't wash it every day. I feel like I sweat more on my head and just feel like I've got some film covering my head .... I don't know another way of describing it. It's much more magnified too in the summer when it's a lot warmer out.
My daughter gets her's done daily as I bathe her every day.

I was wondering about those that were trying to "save" their color by not washing everyday. I get that, but if you have gray roots, doesn't the weight of the hair being dirty weigh it down and show the roots more?
