Going diaper free??

tink's picture

Can you imagine never putting diapers on your kids? I can't. I just think of training a puppy. It's no fun. But some parents are choosing not to put diapers on their kids.

I read in USA Weekend newspaper insert that there are 4,000 parents - not many, but an interesting number - that are part of a social group dedicated to reading the signs of when their kids need to go. I don't know if its to save landfills, money or what, but it just seems so crazy and exhausting.

I remember nursing alone as exhausting. But also watching to catch your child's poo or pee. Ugh!

There are lots of mothers on

There are lots of mothers on my birth board that are attempting this. I thought it was strange when I first heard about it and there's no way I could ever do it. It would take a lot of dedication and running to the bathroom with baby, but if it works, cool.

'I tried it a couple of days ago as part of the potty training process and it did it\'s job of training my daughter what happens when that feeling comes, but it also trained me that I don\'t want to go diaperfree and messful any longer! God bless these parents, but I don\'t think I could. Using cloth diapers is about as green as I think I could manage

That sounds very odd - I wouldn't have been able to handle that. Taking care of a baby is exhausting enough on its own, this probably would have sent me over the edge.
Is it just a "green" thing, or is there supposed to be some benefit to the child?

It sounds very stressful to

It sounds very stressful to me - for both the parent and the child. And imagine being dangled over the toilet as a little one every time you grimaced!
