Potty training

Susie's picture

It's been a long time since I potty trained my oldest son and my youngest should probably start soon. He's 2 1/2 (30 months) and I think that's about the time my pediatrician said boys should be ready. I know all kids are different but does this sound about right? And does anyone have any tricks to share? Want to make sure I'm not missing anything that will bring instant success!!

I wish I had some tricks

I wish I had some tricks too. My son turned 3 in December and the peditrician said not to worry that most boys (these days) do not get potty trained until they are 3. We try weekly, but he insists on being a baby still (granted we just had a newborn so maybe there is something to that.) I've tried DVD's, books we read together, talking about it all the time, training pants, etc. He is just not ready. If anyone else has some pointers...do share.

I've read that the average

I've read that the average age for potty training completion is 3 to 4 years of age. Granted, I have friends that have trained their kids by 18 months! But, they seem to have a longer time with accidents, etc. My daughter turned 3 in September, and I just got her trained a few weeks ago. I will add that it happened very quickly and went so easily, I was amazed! I think the trick was waiting until she was ready. Do whatever feels right for you, but don't worry if your child's not quite ready. He's still very young.
