Have you checked out
Have you checked out meetup.com? I moved here a year ago and didn't know anyone and really wanted friends for my 2 year old. I joined the West Valley group for toddlers and they have lots of activities and playdates. I am pretty sure they have a group in Chandler. If not you can start one on that site.
Good Luck to you all! :)
We live in Chandler, but
We live in Chandler, but unfortunately my kids are teenagers (and I mean that in more ways than one!) so they're a bit too old. But I have noticed that there are several 'meeting grounds' around the area --- the Chandler libraries have story times and kids' activities where you might meet others your age, also the parks and rec centers (i.e. Tumbleweed) have organized activities as well as 'drop in' play times for this age group. And there are several water parks open to the public (i.e. at Hamilton High School) that might be a good place to meet other moms of young kids.
Good luck and maybe I'll see you at the Tumbleweed July 4th Fireworks next week!
New to AZ --- and missing autumn leaves and the smell of apple orchards!
Have you thought about going
Have you thought about going to Church (or Temple, etc.)? Don't get me wrong; I'm not pushing religion. I'm an Episcopalian, and the closest we get to evangelism is inviting people to stop by services with us on the way to brunch.
When I went to Dearborn, MI for a year and a half on a contract, I found a real lifeline at the Church there. I went from being totally alone to being part of a community.
I know it's tough to schedule when you work nights, but it's a great way to meet good people.
Hi there! Welcome to AZ! I
Hi there! Welcome to AZ!
I promise you things will get easier once school starts and your kids will have plenty of opportunity to meet new friends and you'll be able to meet moms too. Summer is hard for everyone just because it's hard to get out when it's so hot. We all hide in the a/c. You'll see kids out at the area playgrounds once it starts cooling down in a couple of months or so.
Definitely check out the Chandler libraries -- they have great programs for kids (reading time, crafts, etc.) and plus it's a great place to escape the heat. Also, the Chandler Community Ctr. (located next to the downtown Chandler public library) offers a wealth of classes for kids of all ages, from pottery classes to gymnastics to photography, etc.
Another great resource, besides this site, is The Arizona Republic newspaper's Chandler Republic section.
Good luck with everything and please let us know how it goes!!
