I wrote a story recently about a group of moms who started their own ice hockey team, no longer content to just pass out water bottles and watch their kids from the sidelines.
The moms strapped on skates and picked up hockey sticks, most for the first time, in January. They named themselves the Mother Puckers. And they're having a blast learning to play the game and sweating under the heavy gear.
Most importantly, their common interest in hockey has brought them closer to their kids.
I'm wondering if other mothers have taken up a sport because of their kids? My 9-year-old does capoeira, a highly acrobatic martial arts of sorts, and I'd love to take it up, but I think I would have a heart attack and die. He is interested in tennis. Maybe we could do that together.

I played tennis a recent Saturday morning with another mom as our daughters took a lesson. The following Sunday my body ached from moving so much, but we've promised to do this every weekend time permits while the girls are in lessons. We both alternate between tennis practice with the girls and watching our sons play on their sport teams.
I definitely see myself playing tennis more because of Julia. We're even talking about playing doubles with our men. :)

I'd be happy and content to pass out the water bottles. Otherwise I might be passing out on the field, court, ice, and embarrass my children.

I took up rollerblading when
I took up rollerblading when my kids started. Wow that was an experience. I wasn't used to all the wheels being in a straight line. It was fun - got me out with the kids but I was shocked into reality once when I fell hard.

I applaud these gals. My daughter is involved in figure skating and one of the Coaches is always trying to get us old gals on the ice together. Can you say "broken bone" ha ha. I'm way to old for that! Maybe after a couple of cocktails I could be talked into it....but then again getting in a spandex dress....YIKES!! I'm invisioning a sausage in a casing.
