Parent Advisory Panel member Mitra Khazai sent me a press release about Jill Stamm, local author of Bright from the Start speaking Wednesday morning at the North Central Parenting Group's end-of-year event. This free community program will be held from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. May 28 at the Church of the Beatitudes, 555 W. Glendale Avenue, Phoenix in Nelson Hall.
Dr. Jill Stamm is the co-founder of New Directions Institute for Infant Brain Development and is an associate clinical professor at Arizona State University in the Department of Psychology in Education. Bright from the Start is a cutting-edge handbook for parents that bridges the gap between the most current neuroscience and practical parenting techniques. Her journey to the writing of the book is personal; her daughter was born almost four months premature and doctors insisted she would never walk or talk. Now, thirty-two years later, her daughter is living proof that nearly every baby’s brain has the potential to adapt and flourish given the right attention. Dr. Stamm will be available to sign books after the program and a limited quantity of books will be available for purchase.
Here's a description about the North Central Parenting Group (NCPG)
It is a non-denominational, non-profit organization started 30 years ago to educate and support parents of young children and encourage friendships among new moms. We offer bi-weekly parenting classes that provide opportunities for parents with children of comparable ages to exchange ideas, explore effective parenting techniques, and share family experiences. Led by professional instructors in the field of early child development, our classes can help you become a better parent by:
Furnishing information on parenting styles and stages of child development through classes and discussion;
Providing encouragement and support in the day-to-day joys and challenges of family life; and
Promoting friendships through social activities including playgroups, special events and parties for NCPG families.
During the event, NPGC will be accepting membership applications for the 2008-2009 class year, which begins in September. NCPG extends financial assistance to interested parents who need help with tuition and or nursery fees. For more information, visit www.ncpgaz.org.
