hi, I am new to chat/forum, i am parent who's daughter going to college & about to be married. I also, have a son (going in to his Senior yr HighSchool), yes it is scary to let them be young adults in this world. We train & guide them & it is really hard to let them make their own mistakes & continue to guide when needed. But I am doing my best as I expect them to do theirs.Question How to Guide them in Employment while in HighSchool???My son is Straight A/3.99 GPA, has no real ideal what to look for???No real employment expriences.

It seems the obvious jobs
It seems the obvious jobs for teens is the fast-food joint or bagging groceries. I know that In and Out Burger starts their employees at nearly $10 and hour which is so much better than when I worked fast-food at $3.35 and hour.
sure, fine, whatever
Let them figure out what
Let them figure out what they enjoy - swimming be a lifeguard, enjoy kids - work at daycare/peter piper pizza, etc. If no jobs in areas of interest - bag some groceries, when the check comes in they'll decide they enjoy bagging groceries.
They can check out temp jobs
They can check out temp jobs if they want a taste of corporate life. We have a few teenagers in the company I work for doing special projects (data entry) during the summer and it's a great experience for them. Most have come back for internship once they started in college. Then once they graduated from college, some have come back and landed a nice permanent job that pays well along with benefits :)

If he has an interest in
If he has an interest in something you might try encouraging him in that direction. Even doctor offices hire teens as filing clerks, etc. Then they have a foot in the door. I know a young woman who got a part time job after school as an office worker in an elementary school and went on to become a teacher at the same school. The most important thing is his grades stay up. Jobs are good for a lot of kids unless pay checks begin to be more important than grades and school. Good luck to him!

I have to say this because I
I have to say this because I wish someone would have told me when I was this age. I wanted to be a police officer when I was younger, but I didn't meet the age requirement. Did you know they have a junior police officer recruitment? They can guide you with stuff like this. In high school there are so many opportunities. I would take this time to get my foot in the door with a job. Want to go into the medical field? Try getting a part-time job at a hospital doing the bottomline work. You will have the medical field in your resume. Receptionist at a doctors office, volunteer at the police department. You can do the smaller jobs. I was a hostess, but I really didn't know how to get my foot in the door after I was close to graduating or graduated. Some colleges will allow students to take early courses to start their college careers. Contact a community college. You will be suprised what you find out. I have a friend who works for ASU. She goes to school and pays maybe $200 for a full load of classes. It's all about the foot in the door. It's all about presence, how badly you want the job, and how hard you're willing to work to get that job. Every person has to start somewhere. If they have never had a job, and a place requires experience get a part time job at a bank as a teller on weekends, or something. Get in good with Human resources. You can also volunteer at hospitals. It's all about the foot in the door!!!! I really wish someone would have told me this.
