Paternity leave

ArizonaMoms's picture

I love this...more dads are getting paid time off to help out after baby is born. Click here to read the story.

Did your men take time off? Mine did, but I don't recall him taking much. He used vacation days - we both work for the same company, so family leave is tied together.

Arizona Moms Editor Yvette Armendariz shares stories about raising her kids and tips for busy parents in her Time-starved (goddess) Mom blog. She and her husband are raising two children, ages 8 and 11.

Your family leave is tied to

Your family leave is tied to your husbands? I think that's a violation of FMLA.

My husband took 3 weeks off using FLMA after the birth of our son. But later on, he agreed that we should have waited on his FLMA until my leave was up (which was 4.5mo for me), and then he could have taken 12 weeks off to spend quality bonding time with the baby.

I'll have to see if it's still something he wants to do with kid#2.

Back in my day of being

Back in my day of being pregnant I didn't even know this existed. My ex husband (my daughter father) took like a week off, but that was vacation time. Not sure if I'll ever go the baby route again (although my current hubby and I have been discussing) but I would totally love him to do this! I would make so much nicer for them to have that chance to bond!

My husband had no time off after I had the baby he had a few vacations day saved up but I didn't want him to take them all just in case we needed them later Luckily my mom lives in my neighborhood so if I need anything she was less than a minute away.

When we had our kids, my mom

When we had our kids, my mom lived close by...that was great. Even though she worked, she came often to help. My husband got some time off, but it was in the form of vacation. I just took 6 weeks with my first. I took 12 weeks (6 of them unpaid) with second...it was worth it. I wish I could have 6 months off (even if only 6 were paid). I also wish my husband got a few non-vacation weeks off at the time. I don't know if our company's policy has changed...we don't plan on having more.

Yes, my husband took

Yes, my husband took paternity leave. At first I was unsure if he would get in the way or just be another person to take care of. But I can honestly say ... I was wrong. It was the best feeling having him home with me for two months. I hated that he had to go back to work a month before me. But at least I had a month to get into my "norm" again. He was truly helpful 150%
