Strange things kids love

ArizonaMoms's picture

My daughter has come to love watching "Frasier" with my husband and me. Watching "Frasier" reruns is our "old couple" routine. We watch it almost every night at 9 p.m. Usualy by then, our kids are asleep. Then my daughter started waking up and "needing" me. So I let her in our bed and she watched as I stroked her hair - an effort to get her to fall asleep. Now she's hooked.

We have seasons 1-4 on DVD, so we could watch a show or two early. Now she's gone through all the discs and can't wait for me to buy season 5. I told her I would for her birthday, which is later this month. She was thrilled, then said, "Just don't give it to me at my birthday party." She realizes this is not a typical 7-year-old thing.

So it makes me wonder, are there other "strange" habits your kids have? Or do I have the only Frasier-loving kid?

Arizona Moms Editor Yvette Armendariz shares stories about raising her kids and tips for busy parents in her Time-starved (goddess) Mom blog. She and her husband are raising two children, ages 8 and 11.

In the late 1960's, I did all my chores, finished all my homework, ate all my veggies, and stayed on my best behavior so that I would could stay up one night a week to see the Carol Burnett show. Who knows why?

lol... yes and my 11 year old son just might hate me for telling this. He loves "Friends" he knows every episode and he did ask for it on his birthday a few yrs ago. He has the entire set but makes me keep it with my dvd's. He quotes Ross and Chandler and Joey all the time and he even got the dvd game for 06 christmas. He and I play it sometimes, It's funny, He knows way more about that show than I ever would,,,

When I was six years old and my parents would have my grandparents babysit me while they went out for the evening - I recall watching the Lawrence Welk show with them. I just thought it was sooo lovely, the dresses, the dancing, the music. The other day I was flipping through the channels and they had a rerun of the show. I actually sat there and watched about 5 minutes of it thinking about how I would watch this with my grandparents when I was a child. I have fond memories - esp. since my grandfather is no longer with us and my grandmother is ill these days. I'm sure your daughter will recall the special time you shared with her while watching the Frasier show - years from now.

My 6 year old loves Designer's Challenge. We watch the presentations and then try and guess which one is picked. Both my girls love How its Made and Myth Busters too.

I use to watch Johny Carson with my Mother on Friday nights and his anniversary shows back in the day. If I was sick I got to watch them too. Back then in California the show came on at 1130 at night!! My Mom was pretty special. I know I couldn't do that with my girls now - way to late for even me now :)
