Hi Moms! I'd like to start teaching some "baby signs" to my 6-month old daughter. I'd love to hear some opinions on the different books/DVD's that you may have used for this, and if you thought that that the signs were beneficial to your baby. I know that Baby Einstein has a DVD, but I didn't know if there were other DVD's or books that you might recommend. Thanks in advance!

Hello! That is great you
Hello! That is great you are wanting to teach your daughter to sign! We had great success with the "My Baby Can Talk" DVDs. We ordered them from www.mybabycantalk.com. We started them when our daughter was 7 months old. While she would be playing in the living room, I would play the DVD and she gradually starting picking up the signs. I never knew she was even paying attention to them until one day she told me "more" using her signs (at around 10 months). These DVDs are great, because the adult first demonstrates the sign, then young kids demonstrate the sign. Our daughter was able to communicate w/ us before she could talk and it helped to alleviate some of her frustration associated with telling us what she needed. She is now 3 and sometimes still uses the sign when she says certain words out of habit. Our son is almost 6 months old and I have just started playing them for him. Hopefully he'll enjoy them as much as his sister! Best of luck to you!
I would see if the library
I would see if the library had something you could try out before investing in something that doesn't work for you.
My girls learned some sign language and we still use it a little. It is nice to not have to yell at them but sign to them to "stop is now" or "no" when we are out.

We took a Kindermusik Sing
We took a Kindermusik Sing and Sign class. Other places teach classes as well. A very simple book that I really like (and my child did too) is My First Signs by Annie Kubler. It's very basic and is a children's book your child will want to look at too.
