Just wondering if anyone has brought their outgrown "stuff" to a Kid 2 Kid Resale Shop and how it works? What's your opinion?
I have ridiculous amounts of clothes with tags that my son has outgrown and even more that he's worn only a handful of times. Plus, the papasan swing and rainforest travel swing, bumbo, playmat, etc, etc....ugh, it seems like he hardly used them and now he's too big!!
I've sold a few things on craigslist (and actually made some friends out of the deal), but lately craigslist seems to be more aggravation than it's worth.
Although I'd love to give it all away, I'm really not in the position financially. We could use the money to buy more age appropriate things for my son. Any advice on the best way to get rid of this stuff without giving it away?

I've sold there, at the Ahwatukee location. The store is pretty particular, and even things with tags that may be out of date may not be accepted. That said, there's a reason the store is picky - the resale merchandise is nicer for customers.
I've had luck at Buffalo Kids in Tempe as well. Not as particular.

i have not sold them
i have not sold them clothing, but i sold them a car seat and yes, they are very particular. (The Ahwatukee shop)
They gave me $25 for a $150 car seat. Which i am sure they will turn around and sell for $75. It was in great condition and we keep all of our owner manuals.
I have received more money from "Once Upon a Child" off of Val Vista and Baseline i think it is.

Wait, this is what I'm
Wait, this is what I'm confused about, do they give you money on the spot, or after the item sells???
Neither are consignment
Neither are consignment stores.
Ok, so i have done this a total of three times. Twice i walked away with cash in hand.
First was at Once Upon a child. They gave me a $50 (plus some change) in the form of a check, because they said they did not have $50 in cash in the register.
Six months later i went back to Once Upon a Child and got $30 cash back on the spot.
About a month ago, i went to Kid 2 Kid and they gave me cash on the spot. They offered me $25 in cash or i think it was $27 as in store credit. Meaning, if i put the money back into the store, i would get an additional $2.
All i have to say, is don't go in there expecting to come out with lots of cash for your items.

How did you like the
How did you like the Rainforest Travel swing? We are getting ready for a family vacation with our 4 yr old DD and 4 month old DD. Our 4 month old loves, loves, loves her swing so we are thinking about purchasing a travel swing to take with us. Is it easy to fold up? Sturdy? Traveled well?
Thanks for any info. :)

Honestly, he only used it a handful of times. We kept it at my mom's house when he was born, and then she was in and out of the hospital for a few months and by the time we started going over there again, he was really too big.
I would say for the few times he used it that it works well. It's very sturdy.
I don't know where you are located, but if you're thinking about buying one, don't buy a new one. Let me know if you're interested in buying our hardly used one. Our swing is still at my mom's in north scottsdale. Email me if you're interested.

Hi Erin,
That is great, I would love to buy it! We are in North Scottsdale as well. I just sent you an email and put Rainforest Swing in the subject line. My email is a hotmail address, so it sometimes will get put in to the Junk email file, so maybe take a look there if it doesnt appear in your reg emails.
Thanks so much!

Hi! I've just sort of
Hi! I've just sort of stumbled upon this site and your post caught my eye. A girlfriend of mine runs a bi-annual consignment sale. The next one will be in either Sept or Oct.
You can go to www.savvymommies.com for information. I volunteered to help at the spring one and couldn't believe how huge it was - not to mention the hundreds, yes, HUNDREDS, of women who showed up to buy stuff.
You can earn a lot more for your stuff here than at most consignment shops. That is, if you are able/willing to wait until the fall.
Hope I was of some help. I'm off to check out the rest of this site!

Kid to Kid is NOT a
Kid to Kid is NOT a consignment shop. Consignments will only give you the money once it is re-sold by the store.
Kid to Kid will give you a choice. They will "value" the merchandise that they want to take from you.
You can have it right then and there - sold to them, for cash. Or you can get it in "store credit" and get 10% more.
E.g., $50 cash or $55 store credit.
I usually take the cash!
Both the Shea/101 location and the Tatum/Greenway location are nice too. Never been down to Awatukee.
Another wonderful place, if you have a couple of nice things...is Puddleduds.
I like Puddleduds better for several reasons.
1. Puddleduds does not require an appointment. Kid-to-Kid will want an appointment.
2. Puddleduds will pay "by the brand." Therefore, a Baby Lulu dress, or a Heartstings dress will bring you a lot more money than a Gymboree or Gap dress. They are pickier about what brands they take, but if you have some nice things that cost more/are worth more, I feel you should get paid more.
What I do usually is take things to Puddleduds first. They'll pick over what they want, then give me back the rest. Then I take the rest to Kid to Kid and they'll usually take all the rest!
I had 8 items once. Puddleduds wanted only 2, and gave me $20. I took the other 6 to Kid to Kid, they wanted all of them and I got $18 for the remaining 6.
Puddleduds is at Scottdale Rd./Shea (NW corner).

Oh my goodness...SOOOOO
Oh my goodness...SOOOOO HELPFUL! I'm doing exactly that...going to Puddleduds and then bringing the rest to Kid 2 Kid. Thanks so much!
I have been to many of the
I have been to many of the resale shops around the valley, I think kid to kid is one of the best. My expierence has been, i didn't need an appiontment, they bought my items while i waited. They offered me two amounts one in cash or 20% more with instore credit and they do pay more for better brands. I would highly recommend this store to anyone looking to sell their items, or to just find good deals on children's toys and clothes. They also have a great selection of maternity and designer jeans!
I personally don't care for
I personally don't care for Kid 2 Kid. I think they are VERY picky and turn down a lot of things that are new with tags on them, but yet have clothes on their racks that are pilley looking, faded and look like they've been washed half a gazillion times. Frankly, regardless of whether it's outdated or not I personally would prefer buying something that is new with tags versus something that isn't. I mean I'm sure if someone is bringing in baby clothes that are new with tags chances are they may be a few years old, but the styles aren't severely outdated. It's not like most people are showing up trying to sell new with tags clothing from the 70's or 80's or something like that .... come on how out of date or out of style can a package of onsie's get?? I brought in some new with tags Gymboree clothing that were just plain things, like solid colored shirts, shorts, etc. from the summer previous they were new with tags and they refused them saying they were out of date ... I felt like saying when do solid color clothes go out of date .. it's not like it's a tee shirt sporting Janice Joplin or something .... not to mention I think what they give you for clothes and other things (I've also sold 2 car seats there) is piddly ..... I'd almost rather donate it since you would have to take in a half a ton of stuff in order to really feel like you've made any money ....more so not feel like you were totally ripped off!! When you bring in things like car seats they will go on line and see what the current price is and make the offering price based off that .... a word of caution ... make sure you're bringing in clothes that are for the current season ... i.e. spring & summer clothing now ... because if you bring in winter/fall clothing now chances are they won't take anything .... I would much rather sell to another consignment store.
Agree - they pay piddly even
Agree - they pay piddly even when things are in very good condition.
I take the cash and put it in my daughters savings account and that helps me feel good about what i've done. Besides, the past 2 years we maxed out our donations.

I frequent once upon a child
I frequent once upon a child on val vista and baseline. Between my four daughters we always have a ton of out grown clothes, shoes and toys in my house. I give away what I can but usually have more than I can give away. How it works is you just bring your stuff down they sort through it then offer you store credit or cash. The store credit is usually a few bucks more than actual cash. Then you get the cash that day. You basically sell them your stuff. They will buy books, toys and shoes. Out of my friends and family I have the youngest kids so besides my kids really dont have a ton of people to hand stuff down too. I like going to once upon a child because I dont have time for garage sales and hate stuff piling up in my house. Hope this helps :)

I have sold at several of those places, Kid 2 kid and Other Mothers. The fact remains that they are a business and they have to make money, so they won't give you very much money for your stuff because they have to stay in business. It is more convienient. I have even asked for store credit. Then I get the kids what clothes I can find there and fill in what else they need at a regular store.
If you have the time, you would probably make more money on your own through craigslist. As far as i know the resale stores only give you about 25% of the original price.
Hope that helps.
