Okay, so I have another question for all you moms.
My son is now 11mo old (actually tomorrow), and I am a little lost on when to take him off of baby food. He eats just about any adult food I put in front of him; but I'm just so concerned about him getting what he needs in terms of nutrients. I have still been giving him the Gerber oatmeal in the mornings along with fruit-is that necessary? He definitely prefers adult food to baby food if he has a choice.
I tried yesterday to feed him more adult food, but he had a little pasta for both lunch and dinner. He ate plenty of grapes, and veggies with dinner. He also ate a little cereal-cheerios and kix.
My friend's son just turned 1, and he is off baby food, but she is so busy I haven't been able to talk to her.
I am also still trying to get him on a sippy cup. There has been no headway. This by far has been the hardest thing to accomplish.
Any advice would be great. I am trying not to get discouraged about the sippy cup thing, but this too shall pass.

Both my sons were off baby
Both my sons were off baby food by about 9 or 10 months, so I think you should trust your instincts and get rid of it. As far as nutrition goes, try not to focus on the day to day meals but look at the entire week of eating. No one hits the food pyramid with every meal, but if he's generally eating well, he will be fine. I can't remember when my kids started vitamins but you can ask your doctor.
As for the sippy cup, no need to rush that. My doc. says 15 months. So focus on the food routine and then tackle the sippy. I liked the Avent sippy cups - very close to a bottle nipple and easy to transition.

Have you tried the Nuby
Have you tried the Nuby sippy cups? They are two for three dollars at Walgreens. I love them!
I tried the more expensive sippys and they just did not cut it with my son.
The Nuby cups have a nice spout that is not too different than a bottle. My son made the switch from a bottle to Nubys with no problem. I transitioned him at 1 year.
As far as feeding, It sounds like he is ready for big food. At that age, I always had my son eat what we were eating (just in little pieces). If you give him a balanced meal, you should be okay. I understand the confusion. I just took my daughter to her 6 month. My doctor told me I could have her eating little puffs and stage 2 dinners already. I was surprised! I think I just imagine her so little still! They grow up too fast!

My 15 month old would never
My 15 month old would never take a bottle and we explored many sippy cup options before settling on the Nuby as Destry suggested.
As for food, he only has two teeth, but I didn't feel he was getting enough nutrition from the uber-processed store bought baby foods and around 9 months I got a food processor and started making his food. It's easier and faster than you think! Instead of saving leftovers, I grind up everything that we eat like chicken casserole, lasagne, spagetti, beef stew, etc. and freeze it in 12 oz tubs. Every month or so I buy bulk veggies, cook 'em and process them and freeze those too (you can also sneak those into things you feed older kids, like mac and cheese and spagetti sauce).
Mostly trust your instincts about your own child's nutritional needs and what you observe about him and ask your pediatrician too.

I too am trying to
I too am trying to transition my baby (9 1/2 months) to adult food, as she is starting to fight the baby food. They say most are transitioned by 1 year. If worried about nutrition, try a little baby food and some adult food depending on which he will eat in each food category, and eventually go all adult. As far as the sippy cup, you might also try getting one that is not "no spill". Fill only with a little water to save your carpets and his clothes, and help him. That seems to help my daughter, although she is nowhere near a champ at the sippy cup thing. The no spill spout is easier to sip (and the kind I have has a very soft, rubbery spout.)
Addendum to my previous
Addendum to my previous post:
I meant to say the non-no spill spout is easier, not the no-spill.
I think at this age it is
I think at this age it is okay to take him off baby food. If you are worried about it ask his doctor. When my son turned 11 months old he refused to take baby food anymore.

My son came off baby food
My son came off baby food really early because he was so interested in our food. Your baby is old enough to make that transition too. Just be sure to offer your baby a varied diet in small portions(to minimize waste and to see what he likes.) As for the sippy cup, maybe try to give him a little waatered down juice in it or when you make the transition to whole milk next month, try offering him milk only in a sippy cup. Then offer water only in the bottle, Maybe not getting what he waants in his bottle will help. My son took a sippy cup from 5 months on, but I had trouble getting him to drink milk out of it for a little while. Good Luck! It will work itself out!
