quality daycare

k.hardy's picture

I'm NEW to the valley and finding quality & affordable daycare is HARD. Tutortime wants $400 a wk regardless if my kids are there 1 day or 5. I work 4 - 10 hr shifts to save on a day of daycare. I only want to pay for the time my 6m & 2yr old are in daycare.
I have looked through many online listings but don't want to end up in the kind of situation that occured recently when a dad got a live in nanny off of craig's list. I want some one LONG TERM who will come to my house, watch my kids, provide some educational cirriculum & do light housekeeping. ANYONE HAVE ANY GOOD INFO?

I've had some luck with posting a job listing on the ASU job board. There are a lot of students (Education majors primarily) who are looking to nanny and because of their school schedule they are not looking for full time.

We had a part time nanny who was an ASU West student for over 2 1/2 years. She was absolutely wonderful, very reliable, dependable, loving.

I would also recommend you checking http://azchildcare.org/
This is a free service that allows you to search zip codes for child care. Many are in homes and offer flexible schedules.

Good luck!

I know when I had my kids in

I know when I had my kids in daycare I took them to Susie’s Mama Bear and loved it!!! I also only paid for the days my kids attended (which is very hard to find). Something to think about, your oldest is in school and a lot of schools in our district provide CHEAP daycare at the school (I pay $25 a week for before care for 1 kid) so you might want to look into that. If you do hire a nanny, I would go to nannyfinders.com (I believe) and look there first. If you do venture the “craigslist” way (or any other ad) Arizonasmom provided a list of questions to ask a while back (if you click on her and read some of the “craigslist” incident blogs you can locate these) and I would also pay for a full background check of anyone you hire.

What part of the valley do

What part of the valley do you live in? I am in N.Peoria, I do chidcare out of my home for the same reasons daycare prices can be outrageous. I too have two children and until my youngest (whom is 2) goes off to school I stay home. To make extra money I run a daycare out of my home. If your in this area and want to talk let mw know.
