"Green" Daycare

flyabuv's picture

Hi,
I am a new member here and I wanted to see if people would be interested in a business idea I have. A close friend and I had the idea of a green/organic in home daycare. Only organic foods would be served, no toxic cleaners used, perhaps cloth diapers (if that is what you prefer), and not a lot (if any) TV shown. I know that is something I will look for if I won't be able to stay home with my kids and I am just wondering if you all think there would actually be a market for this or if it is actually something you would be interested in?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

I am looking at going back

I am looking at going back to work and I would LOVE this! I try to feed my 2 year old organically and we have also been converting our home to more organic or sustainable products where possible. I would love more info if you decide to do it.

I think it's a great idea,

I think it's a great idea, but I'm assuming you'd charge more for this type of environment and in the state this nation is in right now regarding finances and the economy as much as someone would want to go with this type of environment they may not be able to afford to. As for the little to no television, I think that should be the protocol whether you go green or not. My daughter is in preschool and they do not watch television at all, nor do they even have one in the facility. I think every daycare/preschool in home or not should be television free. I personally think you're paying for your child to be cared for, nurtured, taught, etc and that the television should not be used as a method to sooth or entertain at all.

So yes, I like the concept and think it would be unique, but I think it would be one that would be difficult to get off the ground ... I could be wrong though!!

I would absolutly send my

I would absolutly send my child there! I currently make all my daughters food, use cloth diapers and phosphate free cleaning products...(some havent been phased out yet though) Excellent idea.
I do agree with the above post, price maybe an issue.

Well yes there may be more

Well yes there may be more of a cost because the cost of organic food is more, but then since it would be run out of a home the cost may be less because of that. This idea was just brought up a couple of days ago, so there are no specifics yet, but thanks to your info and input I will definitely consider actually doing it! I will let you all know if we actually decide to do it.

I think if you are

I think if you are reasonably priced every mom would want to take their child to you! Most moms want the best for their child especially in a daycare setting. It sounds like you have all the right ideas for success. Oh yes, and welcome to arzionamoms and please keep us posted.

I think this is a great idea

I think this is a great idea and there's definately a market for it. I'd make sure that the building has some green elements as well (paint, lighting, water-saving devices, recycling, etc).

Yes, I think there would be a market for this but you'll want to be centrally located, and not in a neighborhood as you'll need a wider geographic appeal to make up for the niche demographic appeal. Look for a drive to location - a location that is on people's drive to work.
