Back-to-school mode

Today marked the first day back to school for my kids. And did I have a crazy morning.

It wasn't the kids' fault (sometimes it is because one of them has to sneak in a computer game before breakfast or they argue or they don't want to wake up). This time I never set my alarm, and this old body was tired from a busy Monday.

The excitement of the kids coming back yesterday made for a crazy - and tiring - evening. We left for dinner around 5 p.m., but didn't get home until 8 p.m. The one quick stop after dinner turned into three. And I never got to my original place (I wanted to stop into Target).

At home, the talking about the visit with grandma and grandpa continued. And we played a few games. Then it was off to bed at 8:30 p.m., as always...but the kids couldn't exactly go asleep. I crashed with my daughter. She kept talking and I was up since 5 a.m., so I fell asleep. I didn't intend to, otherwise I would have set her alarm.

The morning was frantic as we tried to beat the tardy bell. We did. Barely. I dropped off the kids with a minute to go, and they ran through the courtyard to class. At least I didn't just drive away and forget to pay for their lunch accounts.

It's hard getting into back-to-school mode, especially after 2 1/2 weeks off. But at least I know that tomorrow will be better. I'll sleep in my own room tonight and set my alarm.

I hear you on this one. We are having a hard time getting back into the swing of things, too! Although I like the schedule, the relaxed days of winter break sure were nice!
