Pig Latin

azmommyof4's picture

So yesterday I pick up my daughters and one asks me " Mom do you know how to say your name in pig latin?" I responded "renniferJay?" and she said I was correct. She then proceeded to ask me if I learned pig latin in 5th grade. I couldn't recall when pig latin was popular when I was growing up but I could confirm that I did learn it in elementary school. This made me think of how funny it is that some things stay in a certain time. For example tether ball, monkey bars the game MASH, and of course pig latin all stay in elementary school. Not only that those things are huge in elementary school. Do you have any memories of something you enjoyed when little that your kids now love?

Marbles! I used to love playing marbles around 2nd grade, and I gave some to my son for his 8th birthday, and he loves them too.

I went to grade school in CA, so the big thing there was the twirling bar and the rings. In fact, I was the twirling bar queen 2 years in a row. I think I would throw up if I had to do it now. I even remember a little red haired boy(Benjamin Ritterbush, bet you can just picture him) pushing me off the twirling bar backward because he had a crush on me. Ahhh...fond memories!

That's too funny jacksmommy!

Hanging upside down on the monkey bars and swinging until you got enough momentum to flip up and land on your feet - that's what my boy does now at recess. AND he's on his third Encyclopedia Brown book, which I also was crazy about in elementary school.
