School time vs. your time

I have a problem. It's my fault. But working from home in the mornings does this. I'm not complaining, just calling it like it is.

When I work I have a hard time stopping midway through something. I tell myself, I will quit the computer at 8 a.m. (I moved that to 7:30 since 8 really meant 8:15....and now 7:30 is turning into 8). My kids know how to dress themselves and pour cereal or pop in waffles. It sounds like I'm lazy, but I'm not. Weekends I do cook...and on a rare occasion I do find myself cracking a couple of eggs and serving up a warm breakfast.

So given my problem, my goal has been to get my kids out the door and to school by their first bell so they don't get any more tardies. That's 8:25 - on the school clock. But it rarely seems the school clock is in tune with my home, computer, TV and cell phone clock.

The last three are always on the same time, thanks to the magic of technology. My home clock is about 10 minutes ahead, as I try to trick myself into leaving earlier (same with getting off the computer, but then I see the real time on the bottom of the screen).

Today we got to school at 8:27, according to my cell. As I drove off and the clock now said 8:28, the school bell rang. And I was just praying the kids made it to their rooms.

A few times last year, the school clock and my clock seemed to be 5 minutes off. I'm thinking that I probably should think of that as a permanent thing. And maybe, just maybe, I won't be telling my kids "Walk FAST!!!"

Do you work at home all day?

Do you work at home all day? Do you have to get started first thing in the morning?
If not maybe you can start your day after the kids are dropped off at school?
If you feel you need to start working first thing...maybe instead of turning your computer on, you can use that time to organize your thoughts for the day?
