We are moving to Seville at the end of April, and was wondering if I could get some opinions on what to do. My question is: I am pulling my 7 yr old daughter out of school early here in San Diego, CA to move to AZ. Should I start her at Riggs Elementary the beginning of May, even though school is out May 28, I know academically she will not get a lot done but I am more worried about her finding friends and being socially involved. I just want the transition to go smoothly for her.
I know Riggs Elementary is new, has anyone heard if its a good school?
Any info on Seville or Riggs would be so greatly apprecialted. I am so new to all this, I just worry about the transition going smoothly for my daughter.
Anyone know of any good dance classes, gym classes or stuff for me to enroll her in to get her into?
Thanks in advance for your help and adivce

Welcome to AZ! As a child, I
Welcome to AZ! As a child, I moved 6 times before graduating HS (New York, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, California and then back to New York). I would recommend that your daughter start school right away. 28 days is actually a LONG time for a kid! In that time, she'll be able to see make those comparisons between her old school and the new one and have a nice idea of what to expect for next year. She''ll already feel like the new kid, but why have her feel that way, starting off a new grade level? Maybe some of those feelings can get out of the way now. In a month, you can certainly meet a mom or two from her school, who may be very happy to have your daughter over for a few playdates over the summer, to ease the transition.

We just recently moved to
We just recently moved to Phoenix and my 8 year old started at a new school. The first couple days were tough. We made sure he had ways to keep in touch with his friends in Prescott. This is his second week, and he is doing much better. I was not sure if it was better to let him start out the year in August or get him enrolled right away, but now that we have done it, I think we made the right decision. He is already starting to name some kids he like to play with. Good luck with your move!

Welcome to Arizona! I moved
Welcome to Arizona! I moved 7 times while I was a child and moved when I was 6 and was put into 1st grade. The transition was pretty easy at this age and within a couple of weeks I had quite few friends. I would say putting her in school as soon as possible will give her a chance to meet a few kids to spend time with over the summer and also make starting school easier in the fall. 28 days is a long time to be out of school for her education and for her socially.
Hi Faun, Welcome to AZ. I
Hi Faun,
Welcome to AZ. I also just moved here from California (Ventura) last spring, and ironically moving to Seville in June. I hope you love it here as we do.
In regards to your daughter. I've heard Riggs is a great elementary school. You can also look into Chandler Traditional Academy which is a public charter school. If you decide to keep your daughter home that last month Seville has an amazing Summer Camp program that you can get your daughter involved in.They have tons of activities for that age group and she's sure to meet some friends. You can go to sevillegcc.com for more info.
Good Luck with the move!
