Make a Difference Foundation is looking for 15 schools, afterschool programs and youth centers needing a face lift.

During the Serve A Thon for Schools event from 8 a.m. to noon April 12, volunteer teams will span out across Greater Phoenix to schools and learning centers in under-resourced areas. The event concludes with a celebration of the day's accomplishments. There will be music, food, beverages and fun for all volunteers and partners.

A celebration event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at Girl Scout's Pine-Cactus Council Camp Sombrero, 1611 E. Dobbins Rd. (16th Street at South Mountain)

Serve A Thon for Schools will bring together the talents, time and energy of hard-working volunteers to meet the needs of the community's most valuable resource: our schools. Volunteers will be helping with large-scale revitalization and beautification projects as well as hosting social activities to enhance learning environments for students and families.

Through corporate sponsorship and individual pledges, the event will also raise vital funds that allow Make A Difference to continue meeting needs in the community through meaningful volunteer action throughout the year.

Schools, afterschool programs and community centers serving youth and education are asked to submit project proposals. Proposal application is available at www.makeadifference.org. For more information and help with proposal development, contact sharifa@makeadifference.org, 602-973-2212 x 239 .

Volunteers also are being recruited now. Visit www.makeadifference.org to learn how you can put together a team of volunteers.
