Mesa District to Eliminate Librarians

ann_ewbank's picture

The Mesa Public School District unveiled a plan last Thursday to eliminate all school librarians over a three-year period as a cost-savings measure.

When students have a limited opportunity to develop information literacy skills, they are at risk for being underprepared for high school and college.

Clerks don't have the background or training to recommend "just right" books to kids.

Help us to save school libraries for 74,000 Mesa children by attending our rally on Tuesday, April 22!

Date: Tuesday 4/22
Time: 6-7pm
Place: Outside Mesa Governing Board Meeting, 549 N. Stapley Dr.

I've also heard that they are eliminating the school nurses too. I wonder if that's true. With all these kids on meds for this and that, it seems that every little thing has a title to it and calls for some pill to pop to remedy the problem instead of just parent discipline. I would think they need to keep the nurses.
