Online schooling--what are your experiences?

I'm interested in the growing number of options for online schooling at the elementary through high school levels. I find it hard to believe that any online environment could be interactive enough to provide a universally good fit for all learners, so I'm skeptical about the quality of education and the level of challenge actually offered and achieved. I'd love to hear from people with actual experience--especially in middle through high school--with these online courses. Do they facilitate a quality education? From the perspective of the student AND the parent?

my son jsut finished a chemistry online course through primavera online high school. he took it becuase he couldnt fit it into his regular school schedule and he needed it for college. I think it is a good option but the student has to be very disciplined. they ahve to be online a certain number of hours to get credit. you just cant do it a couple of hours on the weekend. and alos if you are doing striclty online courses instead of real school you have to make sure that the student is registered with eh country school superintenednt office other wise they dont get credit for graduation. a girl inmy sons school quit school to take online classes the second semester of her senior year. she did all the classes and got good grade sbut now she finds out she is not graduating becuas eshe didnt register. sad.
