Therapeutic Boarding Schools/Wilderness Programs

zmom's picture

Our teenage son that has been having some emotional and behavioral problems was recently transported to a Wilderness Program to try and work things out. We are unsure at this point if he will be coming home after he is done or transferring to a therapeutic boarding school. Our initial impression of the wilderness program, Second Nature in Utah is very good and we feel we made the right decision. We have found the process of figuring out what to do very complicated not to mention expensive. We had to hire an educational consultant, not an inexpensive thing to do, to help figure things out and at this point we are happy with that decision. If there is interest in this topic I plan to share our experiences and would appreciate others sharing their experiences as well.

The one thing I've learned

The one thing I've learned through 4 teenagers is "go with your gut". Friends and relatives try to help but the fact is unless they've gone through it or are going through it, they don't have a clue. Good luck to you and your son, I hope everything works out the way you want it to.
