Looking for preschool

jwbmommy's picture

I am looking into getting my son into a preschool. He will be 4 in March and has been at an in-home daycare since 6 weeks old. We live in the west valley and I work in central phoenix. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good preschool program that is full time and well-balanced with education and activities. Thanks ahead a time for any suggestions.

Located off of the Loop 101 (Beardsley) around 43rd Avenue. Excellent program. They offer before and after care. I believe they just opened up registeration to new families this week. They fill up and have a wait list so you should look into it this week if you are interested.

I just faced the same

I just faced the same situation with my 4 year old daughter and was fortunate enough to be able to take my time in researching and looking for a preschool. I too live in the West Valley and work in downtown, so location was key. I found a preschool at 35th Ave and Bethany Home Rd., At Teach and Play, which also has a charter school attached for grades K-3. This will make it easier when my older daughter is starting Kindergarten and my younger one is still in preschool. They have affordable rates and both of my girls love it. It's worth checking out.

That you for the suggestion.

That you for the suggestion. Do you have the hours of operation and do they shut down during the year (i.e. holiday breaks)?

You're welcome, they have

You're welcome, they have limited days that they are closed. Maybe 5 or 6 days per year. They are open from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Good luck in your search.

A great resource is Child

A great resource is Child Care Resource & Referrral. They can give you a customized list of child care facilities and homes near your home or work that meet your family's needs. Because they don't recommend or endorse any particular child care setting, you still need to check out the sites, but it is a great place to start. You can contact a referral specialist at 800-308-9000 for a customized referral. Be sure to ask them to do a vacany check where they provide you with up to date information on if the center or home is accepting children. Also on the web at www.azchildcare.org, but that referral is more general, not customized.

I also used CCR&R and it was

I also used CCR&R and it was great getting a listing based on criteria that was important to us. We selected a few preschools and visiting them was really the only way to get a sense of the school. That and asking lots of questions, of course.

This is a good time of the year to start looking since many preschools are opening their summer and fall enrollments now.

Try Trinity Lutheran Church

Try Trinity Lutheran Church school in Litchfield Park. I will be enrolling my son there this year. It can be full time and is very clean, educational and fun.

Parkway School of Excellence

Parkway School of Excellence is on 16th Street and Maryland - It has hours for working parents and I think includes summers.

I was there with my first and needed their full days, the teachers were very loving and the structure, very well structured. They had a great play area.

Although I liked many aspects of their Christian curriculum, a change of Director brought about a mentality that worried me (they wouldn't discuss Earth Day as they "didn't want the children to worship trees instead of God) But it you can live with that, (and I don't know who the director is now anyway.) It is a good school and one of the few I know of in this area (Central Phoenix) that keeps open until 6:00 pm.
