Vistancia Schools-I NEED HELP!

njmommoving's picture

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone in the Peoria area sends their kids to Preschool and where? I found a school called Sunrise Preschool and was wondering if it's recommended? Also, I moving to Arizona in the next 6 months and was wondering what to do about school for my 4 year old daughter? Does Arizona have a deadline for children who turn 5 after the month of October? My daughter turns 5 in November so I am not sure if she needs to go to Kindegarden. I would appreciate any help!!

Thank you

Helen

State law is 5 by December

State law is 5 by December 31st. Some districts won't let you in. (Notice I said SOME)They give the child a test and depending on the results still won't let you in. You can fight it and usually win. (I wouldn't recommend putting in a child that was considered young - just my opinion), private schools make up their own rules and usually stick with a Sept. 1st date.

When you find a place to live, look at the school in the area (or better, find a school you like and works for you and THEN find a place in the area). They would be able to give you better answers about the age. Good luck.

Reread what I wrote - STATE

Reread what I wrote - STATE law is the end of the year. Some districts try to avoid it at all costs some don't.

Per the Arizona Department

Per the Arizona Department of Education's website:

"Kindergarten
Kids Hands Writing According to the Arizona Education Code 15-821 (C), “a child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if the child is five years of age. A child is deemed five years of age if the child reached the age of five before September 1 of the current school year… The governing board may admit children who have not reached the required age as prescribed by this subsection if it is determined to be in the best interest of the children. Such children must reach the required age of five for kindergarten…by January 1 of the current school year.” Contact your local school district or charter for specific information about their admission policy."

August 14 is my daughter's

August 14 is my daughter's birthday and she wound up being the very youngest in her class of 25 students. So November might be acceptable to a particular school/district, but the reality will likely be that she will be young compared to her peers.
Especially given how many parents seem to hold back their (boy) kids until they are already 6 before starting kindergarten. Seems odd to me to have all these 19 yr. olds still in high school, but it is being done.

We're in the Scottsdale School district and Sept. 1 is the observed rule as far as I've seen.

You should call the

You should call the elemantary school in the area your moving into and ask them if they offer the pre-k program. Many of the schools know offer this program, you have a choice of a 3 hour or full day. I don't know what the price is but I've heard their good, sometimes there is a waiting list.
